WELCOME ORIGINS THE BEGINNING THE BOOK
COAT OF ARMS FAMILY DATA SHEET HOW TO ORDER...

This is the first page of our family
listing in the Libri D’Oro, (
The Book of Gold ). It is a
manuscript written some time in the 1700s,
and is a compendium of the noble families
of Siena where our
family had its origins. We are also listed in eleven other books of nobility.
The two Coats of Arms shown, and three
others, are explained in my book, and later on this site.
The Italian text reads “ This family is
originally from Massa Maremma * ( today known as
Massa Marittima). They are buried at the
church of St Augustin “ (other sources indicate
that we are also buried at the Durmo [
Cathedral ] . Both churches are in Siena. )
The next headings is “Residents”, and the
text says “The first resident was Nino di Deo
and in 1360 he was made a Councilor of the
Republic of Siena. Meo di Nino ( Nino’s
son ) was Capitano di Popolo ( General in
charge of the army ) in 1356 and 1357 “.
This listing goes on for three pages.
·
Massa Maremma
was in the sphere of influence of Siena and was conquered by them in
the thirteenth century. It was the custom then to bring talented people
to Siena and in
time reward them with Sienese citizenship.
