Spring Break!!

We went to a resort at Williamsburg, VA this springbreak. It was a blast... except the two day drive out and the two day drive back. But we had bought one of those portable tv/vcr's for the car and so Sierra actually did pretty well on the drives. On our drive out we stopped at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. I bought some books by my professors Dr. Ronda and Dr. Burstein while I was there. It is really neat to go to a historic place and see so many books by people you know and enjoy talking to. Once we got to Williamsburg we found our suite to be gorgeous, as big as our apartment last year except it was just one bedroom. And there was a hot tub in the suite! We visited Yorktown, Jamestown, historic Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, and the VA Marine Science Museum. We had a great time! =)

The beach!

Two of these pictures are from Virginia Beach. The other is from one of the islands you pop up onto when you are driving on toll road that goes over and under the bay. We also stopped at a restaurant on that toll road and ate while looking out at the foggy bay. Virginia Beach was great. It was cool and rainy but it was still wonderful. The sound of the waves lapping onto the beach... hearing ships out on the ocean but not seeing them because of the fog... building sand castles with my girl. We loved it. I'd love to go back during warm weather... but I'm sure it will be a little more crowded then.

Me and my girl...

Sierra and I had a blast... as we always do. She really liked seeing the College of William and Mary kids jogging in historic Williamsburg. She would take off chasing them, and one time actually caught up with some. They were stretching so she started stretching too. It was cute. She wants to be a jogger now when she grows up. I loved Jamestown! It was so peaceful. It was easy for me to envision the many scenes that the historic markers told about. To be standing where current America began! I know the Indians were here first (after all I'm part Cherokee), but Jamestown is the site of where English political institutions began in America. The ideas that those people brought with them grew and developed over time until they became the foundation of our American Constitution! Now you can see why Tim and Sierra were pulling me away from all the historic spots... I would get too caught up in imagining and they would get bored. But they really did enjoy themselves too.

Tim and Si...

Tim and Sierra really enjoyed visiting the VA Marine Science Museum. Tim's a diver and so he loved seeing the different sea animals. Sierra loves animals of all kinds. They also enjoyed eating at a tavern in historic Williamsburg. The staff wore colonial dress, the food was like what would have been available at that time, and the lighting was by candlelight. Sierra loved it when a man played the violin for our room. Tim loved the bill! Just teasing, that was probably the most expensive food we'd ever ate. But I think it was worth it for the experience. Tim also loved going in the tunnels under the bay. Being an engineer he thinks stuff like that is cool ;-).
