Air Intake · Headers · Exhaust Systems
There are all kinds of air intakes rangeing from powerful cold air induction systems to their lesser cousins, the short ram intakes. These systems usually range in price from $100 to $300 depending on the brand and type of system. Below is a list of the major brands of air intakes, with their average prices (according to me). For more info on the idea of air induction visit the AEM website.
Headers are the piping through which the exhaust leaves the engine bay and enters the exhaust piping. To complete any high-performance engine, you need faster flowing headers. These parts can range anywhere from $200 to $400, or more, depending upon the vehicle and setup. There are two kinds of headers: 4-1, and 4-2-1. You should research the high-end and low-end power distribution of each of these headers before deciding upon a purchase. The only brand I can recogmend for these parts is DC Sports, for they made their name making great headers. For more info vist the DC Sports website.
After or before purchasing headers, it is manditory that you get a faster flowing exhaust system. There is many versions of these, but the only acceptable one is the cat-back exhaust system. There are two brands I recogmend for these, GReddy and Borla. For sport compact imports, such as the Honda Civic, I suggest you use GReddy. For domestic sport compacts, like the Ford Focus, you should turn towards Borla. These systems are a little more expensive, like about $800, but they won't burn a hole in your pocket like turbos or superchargers. Click here for the GReddy website, and here for the Borla site.
