Naturopaths understand that the body will heal itself if given the proper conditions. These conditions include proper diet and nutrition, pure water, exercise, clean air, sunlight, rest and possibly detoxification. A naturopath searches for the cause of an imbalance in the body and then provides the body with what it needs to heal itself. Unlike allopathic physicians who most often attempt to treat a symptom which sometimes allows the original cause of the illness to continue, a naturopath views a symptom as only a signal or a clue to search for and analyze the underlying cause. Once the root cause is determined, it is a matter of giving the body what it needs to heal itself. This may include nutritional supplementation, herbs, homeopathic remedies, detoxification, and healing foods.
Naturopaths do not diagnose disease, treat disease, prescribe drugs or pharmaceuticals, or perform invasive or surgical procedures. These procedures are left to allopathic healthcare. Naturopaths recognize the necessity of this form of healthcare in certain circumstances. Naturopathy also recognizes the fact that many people are harmed by this type of healthcare and that allopathic treatments can often be ineffective in promoting long term health.
THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF NATUROPATHY ARE:
DO NO HARM
RECOGNIZE THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE
FIND AND ELIMINATE THE CAUSE OF POOR HEALTH
ACKNOWLEDGE THE TOTAL PERSON
PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH
