The Bourke's Parakeet is an extremely gentle bird, they can be kept in most aviaries without any problems being caused by them with other birds. The are most commonly kept in aviary situations, although if handfed they make a very affectionate pet. Bourke's are very quiet; thus they make a great apartment bird, being inoffensive to everyone. We have found the baby Bourke's to be one of the most delightful and friendly babies to raise. The weaned babies are extremely loving and make wonderful pets. They are calm and gentle enough for a child, but care should be taken as they are very fragile and young children must be watched closely with them.
