A man called Hasegawa Gaku in the Hokkaido University was impressed by the Yosakoi festival in Kochi very much, and he wanted to start Yosakoi in Sapporo. At the end of his many hardships, the Yosakoi Soran festival took place twelve years ago. At first, the number of Yosakoi Soran teams was ten, but in the twelfth festival, about three hundred and thirty teams participated. This festival may eventually be a bigger festival like the carnival in Rio de Janeiro.
