TROOP ORGANIZATION
SCOUT PATROLS:
The troop is made up of boys from 10-17 years old. Most of our
scouts are from the
PATROL LEADERSHIP:
Once each year elections are held for Patrol
Leadership. Each individual patrol selects one scout to
be their Patrol Leader. In this
position, the scout is responsible for overseeing the patrol planning for
activities and outings.
Also elected is a Senior Patrol Leader and an Assistant Senior
Patrol Leader. These are senior scouts
who are responsible for planning and organizing troop activities and outings in
consultation with the Scoutmaster and other Adult Leaders.
Other positions of leadership are generally assigned by the
Scoutmaster after considering individual scouts preferences and talents. They
are: Quartermaster who keeps track of troop equipment; Troop Historian who
maintains a scrapbook of troop activities and outings; Troop Librarian who
maintains the troop collection of Merit Badge books; Scribe who keeps notes
during Patrol planning sessions; Troop Guide as mentioned before who guides
younger scouts; Troop Instructor a senior scout who helps teach specific scout
skills.
ADULT LEADERSHIP:
Each patrol is also guided by an adult leader called the Assistant
Scout Master (ASM). The ASM is
responsible for helping the scouts advance thru the ranks, conducting
Scoutmaster conferences and assisting in troop
activities and outings.
Adults can also act as merit badge counselors. Their responsibility is to help the scout
achieve the necessary knowledge and experience in a merit badge subject to earn
the badge. There are over 120 merit
badges defined by BSA. The Boy Scout
handbook outlines which merit badges are required for advancement.
The Scoutmaster is responsible for the overall organization of the
troop. He is charged with guiding and
training the scouts in leadership and meeting with the Patrol Leadership to
plan and organize troop activities.
TROOP COMMITTEE:
The troop committee consists of Adult Leaders and parents. The
committee meets several times a year to discuss financial matters, future
events and exchange ideas for the troop direction.
