Please be aware that most of the earlier census records to used the Soundex
finding aid. This personal name indexing tool makes it relatively easy
for us to find our ancestors out of the millions of names in a given
census. That is not the case in the 1930 census, with the exception of
twelve southern states, which will still have Soundex for the 1930 census.
Indexes using the Soundex exist for the states of Alabama, Arkansas,
Florida, Georgia, Kentucky (part), Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia (part).
