In Our Hearts

We thought of you with love today,

But that is nothing new.

We thought about you yesterday,

And days before that, too.

We think of you in silence.

We often speak your name.

Now all we have is memories,

And your picture in a frame.

Your memory is our keepsake,

With which we’ll never part.

God has you in his keeping.

We have you in our heart.

Much love from your family

Grief is like a jagged rock that you bury deep in your pocket,

It's sharp edges forcing you to take it out and examine it from time to time,

Even when you do not want to.

And when it is too heavy to carry, you must ask a friend to hold it so you can rest.

As time passes it is a little easier to take the rock out of your pocket.

It doesn't seem to weigh as much.

Now you show it to a circle of friends and,

occasionally, even a stranger

One day you pull out the rock and suprisingly,

it doesn't even hurt.

For the edges are no longer jagged

but smoothed out by time, touch and tears.

"Who was Debra Brux?"

As I sit in my office staring out of the window in search of the ideal thought expressed in the best adjectives, the wind tossed stand of bamboo, camphor and acorn trees across the little valley seem to be attempting to aid me in this endeavor. --Deb was an unchanging friend.--As the day's weather ushered each one of us into the grey halls of the CP Building each morn from our various homes, be it sunny with all the hopes and aspirations of a thousand tomorrows, or be it a wind biting as an untrained dog then refusing to let us shut those big steel doors behind us, there were certain friends whose demeanor never changed. . .Debbie was one such friend. She never changed, never spoke ill of others, never was gloomy, always placing her pains behind the pains of others. She was an especial friend to the weak and discouraged, brightening up their dark corner where they may have been forgotten by the standard flow of frienships and relationships that the majority enjoyed. Her desire to make us all laugh still is heard and felt these many years later. While we cannot change events, possibly God will give us the grace to learn from those He has put in our paths.

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free.

I’m following the path God has laid, you see.

I took His hand when I heard Him call,

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way.

I found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow.

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life’s been full, I savored much,

Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your hearts and peace to Thee.

God wanted me now; He set me free!
