Abner came to Texas about 1847. In the 1850 Navarro County Tx. Census he is shown with his wife Jemima, age 24, and Rutha, age 1. J. W. Skipworth stated that Abner and 2 of Mary Jane's brothers came to Texas on a Wagon Train. His neighbors were Grisham, and L. K. Lee both of whom were born in Tennessee, and related to Mary Lee-Crabtree, Abner's mother. In the 1860 Sebastian Co. Ar. Census Abner and Jemima had 3 girls, and 1 boy. Abner may have been killed during the Civil War, as his younger brother was. Later Jemima seems to have married a McCoy in Sebastian Co. Ar. according to the 1870 and 1880 census.
