The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron
saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that
February has long been a month of romance. St.
Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains
vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman
tradition.
So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become
associated with this ancient rite? Today, One legend
contends that Valentine was a priest who served
during the third century in Rome. When Emperor
Claudius II decided that single men made better
soldiers than those with wives and families, he
outlawed marriage for young, single men -- his crop of
potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice
of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to
perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When
Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered
that he be put to death.
What says I love you better then a rose? For hundreds
of years poets and scholars have been able to describe
the rose only in superlatives. Roses symbolize both
peace and war, love and forgiveness
What is Love?
Love is to love someone unconditionally. To their
faults and be able to love them for who they are
and what they are. To accept their bad qualities
along with their good ones. Love is precious, and if
you are fortunate enough to have people in your life
that you love, then Valentines Day is for you.
What better time to show that person that you care
about them. Well besides the fact that you should
show them that every day. Remember this Valentines
Day, to show the people you care about that they are
special. Whether they are family, friends, or your
spouse, let them know you care. Let them know they
are special. Once they are gone it's too late.
