Easter
is the time of springtime festivals,
a time to welcome back the Tulips,
the Crocuses
and the Daffodils. Its a time of new
suits, new
dresses and patent leather shoes. A
time for
Christians to celebrate the rebirth
of Christ.
And a time of chocolate bunnies,
marshmallow
chicks, and colored eggs!
~Easter
Symbols ~
Many
Easter customs come from the Old World. The
white lily, the symbol of the
resurrection, is the special Easter
flower.
Rabbits
and colored eggs have come from pagan
antiquity as symbols of new life. The
Easter rabbit, a symbol of fertility, and
in colored easter eggs, originally
painted with bright colors to represent
the sunlight of spring, and used in
Easter-egg rolling contests or given as
gifts.
Easter
Monday egg rolling, a custom of European
origin, has become a tradition on the
lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C.
During the Octave of Easter in early
Christian times, the newly baptized wore
white garments, white being the
liturgical color of Easter and signifying
light, purity, and joy.
The
bunny as an Easter symbol seems to
have it's
origins in Germany, where it was
first mentioned in
German writings in the 1500s. The
first edible Easter
bunnies were made in Germany during
the early 1800s.
And were made of pastry and sugar
The
greatest festival of the Christian
Church
commemorates the resurrection of
Jesus Christ.
It is a movable feast; that is, it is
not always
held on the same date. In AD 325 the
church council
of Nicaea decided that it should be
celebrated on the
first Sunday after the full moon on
or after the
vernal equinox of March 21. Easter
can come as soon
as March 22 or as late as April 25.
I love
to decorate eggs. My favorite ones
are the ones that really deep, rich
in color
A very-easy way to get some cute,
colorful, eggs, is to buy some of
those plasticshrink-wrappers.
They
are really good for the kids. The
trick is to find some cute wrappers.
Last year I found some really cute
Winnie-the-Pooh wrappers!
I love putting
Easter Baskets together! I like
to make them very pretty, with bows and
decoration.
My kids are getting almost to big for me to
surprize
them with a Easter Basket with just candy, so
I
have came up with a plan to keep giving them
Easter
Baskets, but making sure that it was filled
with
something that they wanted and could use.
Something
like a Christmas stocking, but in a basket
instead.
You can add some stickers, trading cards like
Pokemom cards, lip gloss, small jewelry,
pastel
candels, small bottles of perfume, trial size
bottles of lotions, throw in their favorate
book
and of course you can't forget the candy!
Instead
of using that alful easter-grass use lace.
Anything that is pastel-colored will look
nice in
an Easter Basket!
On
Monday, March 31, the traditional Easter
Egg Roll takes place on the White House
South Lawn from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The
Egg Roll and Egg Hunt are for children
between the ages of three and six,
accompanied by at least one adult. Other
family members are permitted, as long as
one person is age three to six. This is a
public event, and no invitations are
issued.
The Annual
Easter Egg Roll at the White House is a
wonderful tradition which The President
and Mrs. Bush hope all families will
enjoy. For the most up-to-date
information on this, or other public
events at the White House, please call
