Hello, let me introduce myself: I'm J. Hunt Willis and am the proprietor of Relics Unlimited here on the Historic Main Street of Durant, Oklahoma. I purchased this old historic two story drug store building in 1993 and have been filling it to the rafters with antiques and collectibles of all kinds ever since.

I buy, sell, trade or lease. The local restaurants, businesses, nursing homes, retirement centers, and our local Southeastern Oklahma State University's Theater department (maybe you've heard of our annual Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival ) lease everything from vintage clothing to antiques and collectibles to decorate with and use as props.

History of Swinney Drug Store

This building was constructed by Snookie Dyer's father back before Oklahoma became a state (1907). Mr. L. F. Lee (Banker) acquired the building from Mr. Dyer. Mr. Lee sold half of his interest to Mr. Schlegel in 1908. Mamie Smith, Mr. Lee's daughter, owned half interest at one time.

The upstairs was the location of several doctors, and lawyers offices. Dr. Stapp - Dentist, Dr. Green, Dr. Coyle - Doctor/Surgeon, Dr. Pate, Mr. Horton - Lawyer, Wilkins & McIntosh - Lawyers.

In 1926, the building was known as Corner Drug Store. Dr. B. B. Coker rented an upstairs office. Dr. A. S. Hagood occupied an office across the hall.

Sam and Dan Swinney were original partners in Swinney Drug Store located at Third and Main. Around 1926-27, Dan Swinney bought this property for Swinney Drug Store. Around 1964, Charles Ellexson began operating Swinney Drug. Mr. Ellexson operated the Drug Store for 25 Years.

The building was closed for 4 years and reopened in October, 1993 under the ownership of J. Hunt Willis as a wholly owned antiques and collectibles shop by the name of Relics Unlimited.

Thanks goes to the architect whose rendering of the proposed changes I was allowed to use in this web page and to the Durant Main Street for the history of the building.
