Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) has lost his faith. His jock brother Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix) has lost his direction in life. His kids, Morgan (Rory Culkin) and Bo (Abigail Breslin) have lost a mother. Now mysterious crop circles have begun appearing on their farm. What exactly is going on?

And that's all the plot you get from me. You should just go see this damn thing. You see, internet movie reviews on this movie tend to fall into two categories:worshippers of Shymalan and uptight critics. Maybe M. Night IS an acquired taste but I'm gonna disagree with that. Those pointing out plotholes and problems with the way the characters act tend to forget a very simple principle of human behaviour. When things get crazy, we tend to do crazy things. Any further defense of this movie would be a spoiler something that I will not give you. Not here. This is too good for that.

This is a thinking movie. Your eyes have been desensitized. Shymalan will mess with them, but if you've seen "The Sixth Sense" you know he's gonna hit you where Hitchcock got you:your mind and ears.

This is a funny movie. There are lots of nice laughs. But that's because suspense is much easier to build when you're relaxing and you know you shouldn't be.

Gibson proves he's an actor to me at least because unlike some other big name actors, his role is not the same character with a different name. You can't watch "Lethal Weapon", "What Women Want", and "Signs" and tell me this man can't act. Maybe Standly's mom is right and he is the best Hamlet. If I ever manage to pay attention during more than one version of Hamlet and Mel's I'll let you know.

Phoenix is a nerd hating jock but this nerd still manages to understand and like his character. That should say enough about his performance.

Rory Culkin sure didn't pay attention to his brother's advice because he's good. And Breslin is perfectly cast.

One more thing, there are religious undertones here but if they didn't bother me they shouldn't bother you because it's not about the religion it's about a man's faith.

I better end this before you ask yourself whether this is a review or a loveletter, but I hope you see this movie as soon as possible.

War.
