can't paint?
- Try wall hangings, large pieces of fabric that your can tack onto your walls! sew fabric with a pattern that you like together yourself or get one from Urban Outfitters for about $32!
- Also, you can add tons of color with your bedspread, furniture, posters/art with big borders and frames, etc.
- Put a lot of stuff on your walls (it will look best if they have a common color scheme and theme).
- Plus, you could always put up a big bulletin board and paint the cork on it or cover the cork with velvet or other fabric, put a cool border on it, etc.
share a room?
- First of all, find a color you and your roommate enjoy that goes with the colors you would both like to use on your bed and on accesories.
- Buy comforters that go somewhat together or, better yet, buy solid colored bedspreads that go with each other and make it your own look by putting your favorite colored pillows, throws, and sheets that you like on it.
- If you guys cooperate with each other, you can still have an amazing room that distinctly shows off both of your personalities.
dealing with a small budget?
- First of all, paint your room if at all possible because it will make the biggest difference with the least amount of money.
- Next, shop around-- you can nearly always find something that you love at a cheaper price somewhere else or by buying something similar and making the changes yourself. Try stores like Target and TJ-Maxx-- you might have to look harder to find the cool stuff, but the lower price will be worth it.
- In addition, you can find amazingly cool items at thrift stores and flea markets for low prices, if you're willing to look through a lot of junk and look for stuff with major potential. I recently bought about 5 old record albums with a Hawaiian or tropical theme for about 50 cents each, and they are going to look awesome on my walls. Just think, I spent $2.50 on one of the main focal points for my room, that were so much cheaper than even a poster!
- Also, try buying plain items with that are a good shape, size or color and change them yourself by sewing on ribbon, gluing on flowers, printing pictures onto iron-on paper and ironing them on, pom-pom borders, etc.
- And, of course, don't forget to look around your room and use what you already have in new ways!
ugly carpet?
- Put down a cool rug or piece of fabric. Try Crate and Barrel and other stores for cool rugs!
