Jake Filmography

2002-2003 - The Day After Tomorrow - Sam Hall - Jake plays a "sullen, smart, cocky and insecure 17 year old who has been frittering away his high school years, smoking pot and refusing to take things very seriously. Even though his grades do not reflect the fact, Sam is an intrinsically bright kid who joined the school's champion academic decathlon team - more so as a pretext to be near his teammate Laura, his secret idol, than because of any real interest in scholarship."(from filmjerk.com) When global warming takes over the world causing worldwide catastrophe and disaster, including multiple hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tidal waves, floods and the beginning of the next Ice Age, he is trapped in New York City, which has been reduced to an ice-covered wasteland. (He is there because he was attending an academic decathlon.) His father, Professor Adrian Hall, a paleoclimatologist (a scientist who studies the ways weather patterns changed in the past) will be played by Dennis Quaid. While most of the world's population heads south to escape the catastrophes, Professor Hall heads north to rescue his son, who may still be alive in the now-wasteland that was New York City.

2001 - Moonlight Mile - Joe Nast - Jake plays a young man who's fiancee is murdered. During the aftermath of her death he comes to stay with her parents, (Susan Sarandon and Dustin Hoffman) and form a make-shift family for each other. The film is loosely based on true events, and I highly recommend it - I'd tie it with October Sky as my favorite Jake film.

2001 - The Good Girl - Tom "Holden" Worther - Jake plays a disturbed 22-year-old man working in a Retail Rodeo discount store who has a relationship with a 30-year-old married woman, Justine (Jennifer Aniston). Justine thinks she recognizes in Holden a kindred spirit. "I saw in your eyes that you hate the world," she says by way of introduction. "I hate it too."
The story revolves around Justine, the choices she makes, and how they affect her marriage, privacy, and the people she's close to. Justine and her husband have been trying to have a baby, with no success and the film shows how this problem is affecting her marriage and life.
This film is very off the beaten path - I like "alternative" and indie movies, but I didn't like this a whole lot. I'd recommend this to anyone who liked "The Anniversary Party." And of course, it is worth renting just to see Jake in action. ;-)

2001 - Lovely and Amazing - Jordan - Released June 28th, 2002 - Michelle, one of the film's main characters, works in a photo development shop with Jordan, who has a crush on her. After learning that her husband has been unfaithful to her, she contemplates having an affair with him.

2001 - Bubble Boy - Jimmy Livingston - released August 24th! Jake plays a boy with an immune system so weak that he must live his life in a plastic bubble to avoid contact with any germs.

2000 - Donnie Darko - Donnie Darko - Jake plays a teen who, after surviving a near-death incident, is haunted by a huge, 6ft. bloody rabbit named Frank, who tells him things to do. He also tells Donnie that he has 28 days to live before he will encounter another potentially lethal incident.

1999- Highway - Pilot Kelson - Jake plays a troubled young man who takes off on a wild road trip with his best friend Jack(Jared Leto) after Jack is caught sleeping with the woman who's pool he cleans. The woman's husband wants to catch Jack and "break his feet." Pilot insists on going to Seattle, where a girl he had a crush on in high school is living. On the way the two friends pick up Cassie, a girl with no place to go and only a bag of stolen shoes to her name. They also visit an "Alligator Boy," before landing in Seattle just in time for Kurt Cobain's death and memorial.
Here are the pic.s I have available.

1999- October Sky- Homer Hickam - Jake is in literally every single scene in this movie-so far it's the one he's famous for. Here are a few shots from it. For more check out my pics page.

This particular shot (the one on the right)was shown on national tv in an Intimate Portrait of Laura Dern on Lifetime Television

1998-Home Grown- Blue Kahan - I rented this, but I missed Jake the first time I watched it - I had to rewind, and the only reason I recognized him was because I had seen these pictures. Jake is barely even an extra in the film, but most die-hard Jake fans see it anyway. ;-)
These are some stills from Kathae's website. I think he's the guy in the jean jacket in the back. The only thing I know is that Jamie Lee Curtis (the woman in the pic.s) plays a character named Sierra Kahan, so I'm guessing Jake's character Blue is one of her children.

1993-A Dangerous Woman- Edward - I think the only reason Jake is in this is because his Dad directed it. He and his sister have bit parts. Basically, Jake and another kid bike-ride by the main character (a mentally retarded woman) and taunt her. He has about 3-4 lines. But it's interesting to see him with his long-ish, early 90's, blondish hair. Here's some pics-

1993-"Bop Gun" Episode #2.1 of : Homicide life on the street - Matt Ellison (aired on January 6th, 1994)- I was able to get a tape of this episode, but, unfortunately, I only watched it once the night I received it, and then the next day my Mom taped over it by accident. So I have to get another copy. Anyway...the stuff I remember is this:
Jake's character and his kid sister and their Mom and Dad (who was played by Robin Williams) are visiting a large city (NYC?) and wind up in a "bad" part of town. Two young men try to rob them and end up shooting Jake's character's Mom. She survives but is hospitalized. The people in the homicide police dept. (whom the show is about) investigate the murder and ask the family a lot of questions. Jake gets very upset at one point when the cop is questioning him (about if he can remember what the guy looked like who shot his mother) and begins to cry hysterically. (See...he was a great actor even when he was a kid!). I can't remember if his Mom died at the end or not. Hopefully, some day soon I will not be so pathetically broke and will be able to get another copy of the tape. Also, they show re-runs of Homicide on Court TV all the time so keep an eye out. ;-)

1993-Josh and S.A.M.- Leon - Jake plays the main characters' mean step-brother. Although it's neat to see Jake at such a young age, he has very few lines, most of them involve insulting main character (believe me, he says some mean things). But the movie is hysterical - it's definetly worth renting even if Jake does only have a bit part. Here are some pic.s-

1991-City Slickers- Billy Crystal's character's son. Jake has a really cute (if small) part. Although he really is only in the begining (and the very end), his part is somewhat significant. My personal favorite part is when he introduces his dad to his class on parent-work day, and lies and says his dad works with submarines. The way those little blue eyes screw up-well you have to see it for yourself. Personally, I didn't really care for the rest of the movie that much. But it wasn't horrible or anything and a lot of other people do like it. Anyway, here are some pic.s-
