Cocoli, Canal Zone

The VFW Club in Cocoli, was the number one watering hole on the west bank of the Panama Canal. A lot of strange things happen there. The club was located on the outskirts of Cocoli, so the jukebox could be played very loud. Panama Beer flowed like water......

Cross over the bridge. To get to Cocoli after the ferry stop running from Farfan to La Boca point one would use the Miraflores Locks swing bridge. What an adventure! It was best to leave a few minutes early just in case one caught a ship locking through either northbound or southbound. I can tell you now it was quite a memrable experience to see a battleship going in harms way. As a little kid living Cocoli the Miraflores Locks bridge was the center of our lives...

Nestle on the west bank of the Canal on the Pacific side was Cocoli. It was a town filled with many activities for both young and old. We had everything! We enjoyed the night life at the Cocoli Clubhouse with movies, Bingo games, bowling, great food and some nights there was even a dance on the second floor. Of course by midnight everything closed down except the VFW Club. What a great place for veterans and their families...
