The USS New Jersey, an Iowa Class battleship was an often visitor to the Panama Canal. This great battleship has now been decommissioned and is moored at her new home at Camden, New Jersey. It is a must see for all who wish to expand their knowledge of the mighty battlewagons. Navy veterans who served on these dreadnaughts will recall and relive some of their deployments when they went in harms way. The New Jersey is waiting for your visit… so come on…what a ship to get away from it all... You will be glad you did!!!

The majestic lines of the New Jersey can still be appreciated as we approach her from the sea.

Old Navy

Here we paused to look toward the forecastle…

Little kids love ships! Here is one of the sailor’s favorite places… the galley.... It seems like it was only yesterday that I had lunch here. I was making a transit of the Panama Canal on board her in 1984. What a fantastic experience!

The USS New Jersey, at her final mooring. A must see if you visit Camden, New Jersey.

Passageways connect various parts of the ship below decks from berthing spaces to battle stations.

Here are a couple of projectiles with powder bags on the main deck of the USS New Jersey.

This will give you an idea of the sleeping accommodations on a man-of-war. What many would refer to as a bed is actually called a rack. I spent more years then I can remember sleeping below decks on such a contraption!

This is a look at the superstructure of the New Jersey from the pier.

This is the bridge of the USS New Jersey. This is a very exciting place underway, at general quarters and when leaving or entering port!

Tomahawk launchers…it gives a battleship another offensive weapon, which it can use to carry out its mission.

All Navy warships have certain areas, which are restricted. This is one of them.

You are below decks. You have received a firing order…The New Jersey commences to provide firing support for targets over the horizon. It is just an awesome sight!

In the Old Navy men served on most ships.

As they lay in their racks at night they often thought about the girl back back home or the wife and kids... always the kids. So the following is a favorite of mine:

"...and the sea will grant each man new hope as sleep brings dreams of home." --- Admiral of the seas Christopher Columbus.
