Do you remember the BYC?

The Balboa Yacht Club (BYC) is located at north latitude 8 degrees 56' plus 2763.40 feet, and west longitude 79 degrees 33' plus 2766.81 feet and is on the west side of the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal just south of the Bridge of the Americas. The BYC has been at its present location since May 1, 1951. The original building that housed the old BYC's office, bar and restaurant burned down on Febuary 18, 1999. A brand new facility is being contemplated and will soon become a reality!

Panama is located 9 degrees above the equator within the rain forest of Central America. One thing about visiting Panama... You are at the crossroads of world commerce and in the heart of the universe. Panama like the IPAT is always saying is more than just a canal. Come to a lost paradise and as I once read; "After all these years I have observed that beauty, like happiness is frequent. MY NAME IS PANAMA...............

Pan-a-ma’----A country of southeast Central America… Columbus landed on the Caribbean coast in 1502, and Vasco Nunez de Balboa first crossed the Isthmus to gaze on the Pacific Ocean in 1513. Controlled by Spain until 1821, the area then became part of Columbia. U.S. desires for an isthmian canal led to a revolution and independence in 1903. Panama is the capitol. Panama City, the capitol is the largest city of Panama. It is located in the central part of the country on the Gulf of Panama. The original city was founded in 1519. It was destroyed in 1671. It was then rebuilt a short distance away in 1673. The population of Panama City is about 389,172. The population of the country is 1, 795,012. A native of Panama is referred to as a Pan-a-ma-nian.

The Panama Canal:
A ship canal about 82 km (51 miles) long, crossing the Isthmus of Panama in the Canal Zone and connecting the Caribbean Sea with the Pacific Ocean. The French began it in 1881, but the project was abandoned in 1889. The United States gained construction rights after Panama declared its independence in 1903, and the canal was opened to traffic on August 15, 1914. A 1977 treaty stipulated that the Panamanians gain full rights of sovereignty over the canal on December 31, 1999.
