One that's just for you A time for doing everything You specially like to do. And on this day that belongs to you, The wish this greeting brings Is for the joy you so deserve And all life's nicest things! ~ Happy Birthday ~ Don't count the years-count the memories........... The number of breaths we take does not measure life no, the moments are really measured by the breaths that take our breath away! The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes their way...oh yeah! Okay lets have a birthday party... yeah! I can remember that birthday parties were lots of fun in the Old Canal Zone. Besides the traditional birthday cake and ice cream there was a piñata! The piñata was always filled with goodies like candies of all types and often lots of coins. The kids would be blindfolded and given a broom handle to take a swing at the piñata. Of course the piñata would dance from the ceiling on a piece of line. It often could get dangerous as kids took their swings. I recall at one party where a lamp sitting in the living room that was totaly wasted. Then at another time one of the fathers who was at the party received a black eye when a little kid missed the piñata but got the father. But when that familiar dud sound sounded; the kids knew immediately the piñata was spilling all its goodies all over the floor. Then the scramble began to scoop up as much of the goodies that our little hands could carry! But that was not all because there were also favorites handed out, which were a remembrance of the fiesta! Of course the camer flash would be going off to beat the band! Everybody wanted to capture the fun times in pictures that were being had by all; later everybody enjoyed their cake and ice cream. Yes, birthday parties were lots of fun in the Old Canal Zone... Do you remember?
