Spike Needs Assessment

During this phase of consulting, we focus our efforts on determining the basic needs of our client company. It is during this short conference session that we determine the current level of development. We answer questions like ‘Is this a start-up venture, a young growing firm or an older established firm that is seeking to expand or reorganize? What are the desires of the principals? Do they wish to change ownership or control of the business?’ We attempt to arrive at the basic capabilities and resources of the principals. This allows us to determine their needs with respect to training, financing, access to inside and outside skills and their understanding of how to use the talents of others, when appropriate.

Spike Initial Analysis

We analyze our client's current situation and develop an overview of the business. We create organizational charts that depict the actual current organization. We work with our client to identify the strengths and weakness of each department and individuals involved in the business. We analyze the administrative operations paying close attention to the current policies, systems and procedures. We examine the marketing and sales operations to develop a good understanding of our client's distribution methods, customer relations, marketing techniques, selling techniques, the level of sales training and the effectiveness of the marketing and sales organization. We examine the company's methods of acquiring salable products and/or services. In addition, we look at the manufacturing, production, and purchasing operations to understand the strengths and weaknesses in each of these areas.

As a result of this initial analysis we develop an overview of the company's current situation and a description of its strengths and weaknesses. We then prepare a mission statement, which will describe the future goals of the client, and the strategies that will be used to reach those goals.

Spike Strategic Planning

Development of a strategic plan for our clients requires thorough study and verification of each concept introduced. The ultimate goal of this phase of service is to create a Business Plan. The plan is intended to be a living document that will guide the client’s management team through the business development process.

During this process we will more specifically identify the long-term concepts, philosophies, and policies to be followed during the next three to ten years of future operations. Such things as total available market, total identifiable market and total attainable markets will be identified. Long-range changes in marketing and management techniques will be identified. A long-range financing plan will be developed. A long-range staff development plan will be documented. The final output of the strategic planning process will be a vision statement, a refined mission statement, an organizational chart and operational and financial forecasts that will define the long-term future for the client's entire organization.

Spike Tactical Planning

Tactical plans or operating procedures are produced in the form of detailed flow charts and written procedure manuals with the primary focus on supporting our client’s strategic plan. Current and future management information systems requirements will be defined during this phase of our consulting engagement. Extreme care is taken to insure that measurement systems are developed that support the company's strategic plan.

Spike Plan Implementation

During plan implementation, we work very closely with our clients to insure that the policies documented in their strategic plan and the procedures called for in their tactical plan are introduced to their management team and staff. During this phase of our engagement, we work with our client’s managers and staff members as closely as needed to insure that the right level of supervisory control is established. The principles of "Total Quality Management," "Management by Exception" and "Management by Objectives" are introduced to our client’s staff, and the staff and managers are trained in the effective use of these concepts as they apply to the special needs of the company.

Spike System Design

Each system we design is tailored to meet the unique needs of our clients. Starting with the client’s management reporting, performance measurements, and operating control requirements, we review the client's current systems and methods. We then work closely with the client’s staff to insure that the right level of manual and electronic systems and procedures are brought together to provide a seamless and cohesive management information system.

Spike Marketing

A key component of a company’s operations is often its marketing operations. Our experience in business-to-business marketing spans thirty-five years. When called upon to take part in our clients marketing program we usually begin with a review of the company's strategic plan and a description of our client's target market. We then review the clients product design, manufacturing processes, quality, packaging, advertising, sales presentations, order entry processes, delivery methods, accounting procedures, customer service procedures, after-sale support and warranty policy to insure that the company is delivering what their customers are being sold and are paying for. In those cases, where conflicts exist, we recommend changes and assist our clients in setting up those changes that will insure the best possible marketing program. We examine the client’s current markets, conduct the needed research and assist our client’s staff in identifying and profitably penetrating new markets.

Spike Sales Training

If marketing is a key component of a company's operations, then the actual process of making sales is often the heart of the company's future. When needed we work with our clients to develop hard-hitting sales programs that result in closed sales. Developing scripted presentations, which encourage customers to qualify themselves so that our sales force can close the sale, is at the heart of sales training. Subjects covered in a typical sales training engagement include: approach and involvement of prospects, projecting warmth and friendliness, being courteous and kind, sales ethics, prospecting, qualifying buyers, telephone technique, time management, call enthusiasm, and closing the sale.

Many clients have found that they can find employees with good formal education in a wide range of subjects. However, with the exception of a few seminar programs, which are usually shallow and generic, there are virtually no formal educational services available to address this critical component of a company’s operation.

Our sales training programs are custom-tailored to our clients needs, including programs that include measurement and reward systems that work. The results are hard-hitting, feature - function - benefit - close presentations that get results! They get results because they result in more closed sales.

Spike Mailing List Services

Over the years, we have developed a close relationship with a number of clients who maintain large mailing list databases. These databases include consumer lists, industrial lists, and commercial lists. For those clients who operate direct marketing programs, we are able to provide the most up-to-date and complete, list management and maintenance, services available.

Spike Special Purpose Financing

While traditional bank financing is almost always the easiest way to finance business needs, there are some occasions when other methods are called for. When needed, we assist clients in finding factors, purchase lease back sources and retail consumer financing. In addition, we maintain close contact with a wide range of public economic development agencies, venture capitalists and private investors. When appropriate, we introduce our clients to those organizations, for special purpose financing, that will meet their need.
