Painters Painting
Tuesday, December 9
7:00 to 9:00 pm

Join us for the first Da Vinci Art Alliance video night with the screening of Painters Painting, a video based on the famous Emile de Antonio documentary film of the "New York Painting and Sculpture: 1940-1970" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

De Antonio’s work is possibly the best film ever made on the making of art. A collage of interviews with artists and critics of the day, it presents a compelling portrait of the postwar art scene in New York. The two hour video includes interviews and scenes of working in the studio by such legendary artists as: Barnett Newman, Robert Motherwell, Jasper Johns, Robert Raushenberg, Helen Frankenthaler, Andy Warhol, to name a few.

So bring your own beverage and popcorn for a stimulating view of art in the making.
Informal discussion afterwards.
Free for Da Vinci members, $2.00 for non-members.

"Pollock to Puri-Five Decades Later"
new paintings by
Antonio Puri

October 11 to October 31, 2002
Reception: Friday, October 11, 2002, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Da Vinci Art Alliance is pleased to have the artists, Antonio Puri ,
displaying his new paintings in an exhibition entitled 'Pollock to Puri,
Five Decades Later'.

Antonio's latest series is an unprecedented hybrid. He has taken Jackson
Pollock's action painting methodology a step further by enclosing Pollock's
rampant fluidity within his circles. Puri has brought an element of
control to action painting in accord with the events of this new
millennium, where control is much needed. He has also artistically joined
Pollock's action painting with the ancient eastern technique of Batik,
creating an art form never before seen.

Puri's work is attempting to break down the barriers that have been
instituted by society. In a time where war and hatred among nations is in
vogue, we need artists like Antonio Puri to bridge the gap. Through his
art, Puri brings together the world of the rising sun with that of the
setting sun, but leaves one wondering whether the sun is rising or setting.

Gallery Hours: Wednesday 6pm to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 12pm to 5pm.
