Angel, a gold coin introduced into England in the reign of Edward IV. and coined down to the Commonwealth, so named from having the representation of the archangel Michael piercing a dragon upon it. It had different values in different reigns, varying from 6 shillings . 8 d. (pennies) to 10 shillings.
