A Special Dedication........

When I first started cooking at a very young age, just to help out my parents who worked all day long, I would start out by chopping up a onion or something..,but little did I know that the skill of cooking would stay with me for as long as I live. I once wanted to make a career out of it, but had a change of heart...

I think that the one person that inspired me the most would be my late uncle " U Aung Thein ", we called him ba ba gyi, a former lecturer at the University of Rangoon, Burma, and the University of Hamberg, West Germany, he was also a health educator according to the Burmese Buddhist System of medicine. Who also wrote the book with Copeland Mark "Recipes from the Golden Land" The Burmese Kitchen, published by M. Evans & Co. in NY.

On special holidays & weekends, back in Woodhaven, NY there would always be a family gathering and my uncle would make awesome burmese dishes like Mandalay Mishee, (his speciality) and Wettha Htamin Htoke (my favorite). He always loved having company over, that was the most fun part of it. When I first started out with the Burmese dance, he would encourage me to continue and actually attended my very first performance at the International Center of NY, he always had a special place in his heart for Burmese dances & its culture.

On last note, if he was to be alive today, I would tell him that I miss him very much......
