Tips and Hunting Ideas

  1. look for demo/construction sites around the older parts of town.
  2. torn up or roto-tilled front yards and parking strips are easy to search and sometimes rewarding
  3. i've had success in areas like: vacant lots, old orchards, old mining camps, old dumps, creek beds, old camp grounds, along side creeks...
  4. look for signs of old age: broken glass, pottery, bricks, ash, bones, old trash pits.
  5. when searching areas like homes, schools, churches etc., check behind and under bushes. search very edges of the grass.
  6. if you want to go deep, go slow. listen for faint signals, and don't give up easily.
  7. if you don't dig all signals in older areas you could be leaving behind alot.
  8. gophers sometimes bring up goodies from deep below. check their dirt mounds.
