Old Horses & Beautiful Children

Welcome to our homepage! We have a soft spot in our hearts for our children and our old horses.... and we mean old. These are a few pictures of both of them! These first pictures are of our children and the first horse I ever owned. She was truly an amazing animal. I really believed when I was little, that all horses were like her. She was calm, quiet, PATIENT and game for anything I wanted her to do. Whether it was going to a horse show, pulling a cart in a parade, or jumping, she seemed to know it all. Unfortunately, her favorite trick was getting loose. She escaped the day she was brought home and tried to run back to her old house. That was in August of 1974. I couldn't begin to tell you how many times between then and when she died how many times she got loose. It was a wonderful feeling to see my own children be able to enjoy time with her as I did. I loved her long mane, though it was a pain to keep it looking nice. This picture was taken on August 8, 2000. She lived to be 35 and passed away quietly one summer's day in 2001. She will always be remembered by me and my family. Emmy loved to take Sandy for walks. The second picture was taken in the spring of 2001.

Dinner Time----->>>>>>>

If there is one thing Sandy really loved....it would have to be FOOD! The other would be her stable mate, Daubrey. Daubrey came to me in 1982. Even though she was small in size she was big in heart and energy. Riding Daubrey was like driving a Corvette, small and powerful! She was half Arabian, a quarter Quarter horse and a quarter Welsh. I had her bred in 1983 to Ace of Spades ( a son of the famous Mr. Binnis, she threw a beautiful filly that I named Asti. With Daubrey so little (14.1H) it was very surprising that Asti is 15.2H! She is the same color as Daubrey was before she got Cushings Disease. Now she is in the latter stages of the disease. It has changed her hair color to gray, and her coat like a yak! The horses' have a WONDERFUL vet who helped Daubrey out with respiratory problems. That with a haircut every spring makes her look and feel better.

This picture of Daubrey and the kids was taken during one of her escape attempts with Sandy a few winters ago (Feb. 1999). Being as gentle as a lamb she was no problem for Dean and Emmy to bring back to the barn. As you can see by her head, the graying is a result of having Cushings for 12 years. At the time of this writing winter is approaching and Daubrey is thin. It is difficult to keep weight on her, though she eats a lot. She and Sandy are on the same diet, Purina Horse Chow 200, 12% sweet feed, an ounce of Red Cells, and an ounce of Max-Flex. Sandy is done very well on it, but Daubrey continues to lose weight. We are not sure how much longer she can go on.

Update 7/00.
Daubrey did not make it through the winter. She was laid to rest in the green pastures of heaven in mid December. I know she feels wonderful now and she knows how much I miss her. A week or so before I had gone out to make a video tape of some basic horse care skills for my exploratory class at school. I used my older horse, Sandy, for the video. Daubrey would have none of that. She kept interrupting during the entire video.... I am so glad she did :-)
This is a picure of her that I took just a few days before we had to put her down. She was a WONDERFUL horse!

It is so wonderful for us to see our children interact with animals so well. Dean rode Daubrey all by himselfwhen he was just five! He was a very proud little boy! She was then his favorite horse and he misses her very much! Though we have only shown Sandy and Daubrey's pictureon this page, we have several of Daubrey's relatives. Daubrey is is 1/2 Arab, 1/4 Welsh , and 1/4 quarter horse. She was bred to a full Arabian stallion named Ace of Spade out of the famous Mr. Binnis. In May of 1984 Asti was born. We aquired an Arabian stallion of our own that we named Alphie in 1993. The have since created the most beautiful babies ( next to Dean & Emmy). The oldest two are geldings, Aero and Antrim. Then comes the fillies Aurora and this spring's foal, Asterick.

( This is Emmy and Asterick in March, 1999) And Asterick's proud father, Alphie.

Wow, found this old picture of Daubrey the day Asti was born (May, 1984). It's hard to believe how much Daubrey has changed. Asti is the exact image of a younger Daubrey.(Just a hand taller, though!)

More on them later..................................................

Shamus and Motion

Shamus and Motion were horses that a friend of mine owned until last year. He sold them to a family who really wanted them. After a year of owning them they could not afford them and put them up for sale. Because I had wined about him selling them the year before without telling me, my friend called my husband immediately! My husband reluctantly told me. At the time we had six horses and really didn't need any more. When we saw the horses with ribs and hip bones showing, scars on their faces from wearing their halters 24/7, the small muddy pen......... we knew they needed to live with us. We are so glad they now live on our farm!

Our Newest Addition;

Diamonds in Motion

On Sunday , May 30th, 2004, our mare, Maid of Motion, gave birth to this beautiful grulla filly!

Her sire is DNB Diamond Rio from Amasa, Michigan. If you would like to see him CLICK HERE!

This little grulla princess is out of DNB Diamond Rio and Maid of Motion, Otoe's granddaughter. She has a great pedigree! It includes Otoe, Sugar Bars and his sire Three Bars (TB in AQHA Hall of Fame), Leo, Joe Hancock, Old Sorrel, Depth Charge (TB in AQHA Hall of Fame), Blackburn, Oklahoma Star, Oklahoma Star Jr., Pat Star Jr., King (P-234) and Poco Bueno! She is shedding out to a silver grulla. She could be a beautiful show horse or an excellent speed horse! This foal is for sale, please contact us at the email below for more information, photos and video clips. She will be a great addition to your barn!

These pictures were taken when Baby Diamond was about ten days old.

In this picture Baby Diamond was about four weeks old. She is with Shamus in the front and Motion behind him.

These last two pictures were taken on July 14, 2004. She is very calm and loves the attention from people. Scractch her back and you have a friend!

This last picture of Motion with Misty in the background was taken at the children's 4-H show August 2003. My son was showing her and Emmy was showing Misty. She is a well built horse and a wonderful ride. ( More current pictures on the Photo Gallery page. )

This year Emmy used Shamus as her 4H horse. Here she is getting ready to enter Showmanship with him. Most people were very surprised to learn that he is 30 years old. He looked fantastic at the show!

Dean used Motion again this year. To us she looked heavier because she had Maid of Diamonds at the end of May and was bred back to DNB Diamond Rio for a 2005 foal. She did preform very well for him. She listen to him much better this year than last year. Last year she would not stand still.

Before Sandy died Dean had been practicing for his first 4-H show. So when she died, Dean was left without a horse. It just so happened that while looking at a tractor to buy the owner also had a horse for sale. At the time I wasn't interested. She had told us she had ridden her once in the month she owned her and was afraid of her, "too much horse". I went for a ride one her and thought she was PERFECT! Well trained and very responsive. On the day we went to pick her up Misty decided out trailer wasn't good enough for her. When I looked in she was sitting on the butt bar! I got my money back and told the owner I didn't feel safe having to driving her two hours home. She said she would arrange a horse hauler to deliver her to our farm and no expense to us. A week later Misty was ours and in our pasture. Dean started to practice with her and ended up doing very well in his first horse show.( We had had her for about three weeks before the show! ) These picture are taken a few days after she arrived and during the trail class. Don't they look great together?

Misty is a wonderful family horse. She is a registered AQHA, born in 1982. Both of my children can ride her. Emmy is planning on using Misty for her first year in the riding section of 4-H.

And now for Shamus. There is just something about Shamus, everyone loves him! He is a 30yo registered Tennessee Walking Horse. He stands about 15.2H. Riding him is like gliding over ice. He is so fast in his running walk! We had to put some weight on him when we first got him two years ago. I think we have now found the feed plan that works for him. Every day he gets a half of a bale of hay, plus an ounce of Red Cell, a cup of Omegatin and an ounce of Digest Aid mixed with a gallon of Purina Horse Chow 200. Check out how great he looks!

The first picutre was taken in the summer of 2003, the second photo was taken in June on 2004. He is such a good looking horse! You can't tell from the photos, but he is dappled over the ribs.
