Why would I want that? I want to get you out from in front of the computer and into action. Get wise. Get real wise and think about how fragile your supply lines really are! Do I care if you buy y2K or other emergency preparedness books from me? No, I could care less. We have skills that can see us through financially. Check out the books I sell for FREE from your local library. But do read up on the subject. I don't care if I make a jolly red cent. I do care if you and yours starve or freeze to death.
Read the preparedness and survival links that tell you what people are predicted to do in a crisis. Have you been reading about the food shortages in Russia? Famine in Korea? What did these good people do in bad times? They rioted, blew up trains, cannabilized, etc. to have something to EAT! Try an internet browser search for 'famine' or 'food shortage'. I am not making this up. People will do horrific things when confronted with the threat of starvation.
I was a one time condo owner whose security system ran on electricity. I got locked in during an ice blizzard when the utilities went down. I know of what I speak. Never again will I put myself in that type of situation.
TEST
Here's what I want you to do. It won't take long. But it might scare you. Read and honestly evaluate your answers to the following questions keeping an emergency in mind. How will your "Little Condo" rate?
- Look at the thin wire connecting your home to the electric grid. Just how fragile is your connection to this convenience?
- Look at your light bulbs. What will you do for light?
- Look at the security system. Will it lock you or your vehicle in?
- Look at your ornamental trees in your yard or nearby park. Anything to eat there? Any fruit or nut trees?
- Look at your pantry. How long can you live off what's in there? What'll you do w/o your 'Fruity-O-No'?
- Look in your freezer. Where will you get your meat/protein if not from here?
- Look in your icebox. What happens if it fails?
- Check out your heat system. Maybe it's natural gas. But does it have an 'electric' ignition system?
- Drive your neighborhood. Where's a water source that you'd feel comfortable drinking from?
- Turn on your tap. Is it clean? How will you get clean water? Got an alternate water source?
- Look at your dishwasher. How will you wash dishes? Feel the germies?
- Look at your potty. How will it flush?
- Look in your linen closet. Any wool blankets there?
- Look in your medicine chest. First Aid Manual? First Aid Kit? Vital Meds that might be unavailable in an emergency?
- Glance at your car. Will it run w/o gas? Alternate means of transportation needful.
- Check out those gas logs in the mock fireplace. Will they run if gas isn't deliverable? How will you keep warm?
- Look at your location. How many 'nut cases' will drive or walk by on their way to looking for a place to steal-a-meal?
- Look at your alarm clock. Will it run w/o electricity.
- Look at your Mr. Coffee machine. How will you get your 'Joe'?
- Look at your laundry facilities. Gonna go dirty? How will you wash? Got a laundry line? Scrub board?
- Look at your iron. Sure hope your Perma stays pressed.
- Look at your heater vents. Where's your alternate source of heat? Hope your dog doesn't have fleas or you've got a honey that really puts out the heat.
- Look at your bill drawer. How will you pay these if you are layed off?
- Look at your plastic charge cards. Shall they work in power outages?
- View your stove. How will you cook?
- Grill your employer. What are their emergency prep plans?
- See your can opener. Will it cut when there is no electric?
Do I want you to panic? NO! I want you to THINK!!!! "What would we do if...?" "What will others do if...?" "How will we...?"
