My maternal grandparents are Josephine Alma Devlin and Edward Emil Herman. Edward was born on April 3, 1907 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the second of seven children born to Mary Ellen Jimison and Robert Emil Herman. ~~~ Edward's siblings are Caroline Marie Herman (m. Joseph Casey), Gertrude Herman (m. James Maloney), Robert Herman (m. Mabel Ford), sister, Esther Theresa Herman (m. Hugh Aloysius Yoeman), and Harriette Herman.
~ Robert Emil was born on March 7, 1885 in Kolobrzeg, East Prussia (now Konegesberg, Poland). He travelled to the United States when he was 14 years old aboard the U.S.S. Lorraine. This ship would have docked in Louisianna. We believe he then travelled north to Chicago where he was apprenticed to a butcher. I have no idea how or when he travelled to Philadelphia, PA. ~~~~ Robert was the first of four children. Sadly, his two sisters, Henrietta and Margarite, died in an avalanche in East Prussia. ~~~ Robert's wife, Mary Ellen, was born on April 30, 1883 and was Scottish. I'm not sure where she born. I have been told her parents were cooks to an afluent family in the Main Line section here in Philadelphia.
~ Robert's parents were Henrietta and Rudolph Herman. The only information I have regarding Rudolph is that he was a minister in the German Lutheran Church, a cabinet maker, and a teacher who spoke atleast 7 languages.
