the spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment.
- I Corinthians 2:15
vance is going to be upset with me when he reads this entry.
for your information bud, i did go to class...at least the first half anyway. and we do have access here at school.
sorry.
anyway.
that verse really jumped out at me. i mean, you hear you're whole life that you arent supposed to judge. well, as a spiritual person, you are supposed to make judgments about all things, according to paul.
even greater than that is the fact that spiritual men arent subject to the judgments of his fellow man. he is accountable to the One True Judge and no other.
so, this is the eve of the day that my Savior was nailed to a tree to pay the penalty for the sins of you and i.
II Corinthians 5:21 says, "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
not only did Christ pay the penalty for sin, but he also become the actual embodyment of sin. try to visualize all of the sins that you have ever committed. its impossible. we sin so many times each day without even realizing it. now try to think about how many people have ever lived since Christ came and all of the sins that they have committed.
Christ was fully God and fully man, but on that friday he became all that was ever evil in the world.
"and at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" - which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" - Mark 15:34.
i used to struggle with that verse until a few weeks ago when my preacher preached on the verse from II Corinthians. Christ became sin. God is all good and can not look upon sin. therefore, he had to turn his back on Christ while he was on the cross.
the generality placed on the image of the cross today upsets me. how many people do you know that wear a cross around their neck? how many of them do you think actually understand what the cross was and is and always will be? not nearly as many as are wearing them, i can guarantee you that.
i too wear a cross around my neck, and have for years. i also have a wooden cross hanging up in my room. i understand what that cross was two thousand years ago and i know what it means today. the cross was the sin offering paid for the sins of you and i. the cross represents my salvation, and its not something that i take lightly.
my challenge to you this easter is to really think about what the cross means. really meditate on it for a long time.
forget about the cute bunnies and eggs and chocolate, and really concentrate on why we celebrate the holiday.
"for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16
the easter rabbit is a stupid idea anyway. a rabbit is a mammal, why, WHY would he bring eggs?
