"when someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. if so, the host who invited both of you will came and say to you, 'give this man your seat.' then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. but when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'friend, move up to a better place.' then you will honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exhalted."
- Luke 14:8-11
Jesus said some of the most awesome things ever.
started a new study on being a leader by first becoming a servant. that was the scripture behind today's lesson.
Jesus really does rock.
anyway.
i started an entry on friday. i will finish that and add the rest of the details about my weekend later. i'll post it later, maybe even later today.
for now, i wrote a short story. enjoy:
he sat on the bottom step with his arms folded across his knees, trying to figure out what he had done wrong. or if he had done anything at all. he noticed the chill on his arms as the cool march wind blew in the night, and he wished that he had taken a jacket on his way out the door. it had seemed warmer than this when he was out earlier. he ran the scenario over and over in his mind. he was just tired. tired of being made fun of, tired of being talked down to, tired of being yelled at, and most of all tired of being treated like he was still 13. so, he stood up for himself and it came to this. wondering how to fix it, he began to pray. he asked for strength and God's hand on his life. he asked for peace and comfort. and most of all, he asked for wisdom and maturity. after he prayed, he sat there in silence for a long time before he began to sing. he sang hymns and praise songs to his Lord. he knew that he couldnt sing as far as the world was concerned, but to God it was beautiful. as he continued to sing, he pulled his arms inside of his shirt to help fight off the growing sting of the cold. growing tired, he rested his chin on his knees and closed his eyes. his thoughts drifted and he began to fade into sleep. determined to stay all night if he had to, he decided that he would be more comfortable on the porch where there was room to stretch out. so he crawled to the top of the stairs and moved the rocker out of the way. he sat with his back to the large pillar and stretched his legs out. growing more and more tired, he would occasionally check the window to see if the light was still on. it always was. he didnt care. he told himself that he would stay all night if he had to, and he would hold true to his promise. he had a thought. he had his keys to his truck in his pocket. that would provide a little warmth and even more shelter throughout the night and it was still technically outside. he loved it when he had ideas like that. so, he crawled into the truck, put the key in the ignition and turned the switch to auxillary power. the heater provided little to no warmth and so he decided to just turn it off and drift off to sleep. he made sure that he locked the doors before he fell asleep as a safety precaution. he didnt know how long he had been asleep when he heard the tapping on the window. apparantly it was over with and things could go back to normal again. or not. he knew the routine. knew what would happen tonight and then the apology in the morning. he didnt want to hear it. he just wanted to be alone and go to bed. and so he did.
yes, i know that it wasnt a very good story, but its my story. if you dont like it, im sorry.
