weekend extragavanza

wow.

thats my feelings about this weekend.

i was totally blown away by this weekend. in more ways than one.

like i said last time, i was the group leader for the senior high boys. what an incredible bunch of guys. i can see God working in each and everyone of their lives, and they are just great guys all around.

i knew all of them before this weekend, but i really got to know them this weekend. when you spend an entire weekend with a group of people, one of two things can happen. either the group will grow closer together or they will split apart. this group definitely grew closer together.

friday night, most of us stayed up until around 5:00 a.m. we got back up at 8:00 the next morning. we were up playing playstation and watching austin powers: the spy who shagged me. i didnt even do the devotional until around 1:30 that morning.

saturday morning, we went to an underpriveledged apartment complex and did a little day camp for the kids. we played games and sang songs and acted out a couple of bible stories for them. the girls did the story of the good samaritan. i didnt get to see it because i was practicing for the boys skit. we decided to do the story of david and goliath. guess who got to be goliath. we had a narrator telling the story and a few people acting it out.

he talked about the big ugly long haired phillistine men, and goliath being the biggest and ugliest of them all. then, i jumped out and scared the kids.

now, there was this little three year old boy there named marcus. marcus was standing right beside the narrator when i jumped out. so, of course, i spent a little extra time scaring him.

then, he retaliated.

he's three. im 6'5. guess where his little hands ended up when he decided to punch me.

good guess.

it was so funny.

then, the narrator was talking about how many men tried to kill goliath. so, vance kept running back and forth punching and kicking me and i would just look at him and he would run away.

finally, david comes out to kill goliath. david was played by the smallest skinniest guy in the youth group. and the best part was that he came out in his wife beater t-shirt. everyone busted out laughing at that.

so, he kills me with a pretend slingshot. i fall down and lay there and wait for him to cut off my head.

guess who decides to drop a big elbow on me while i am laying there.

you guessed it. its the infamous marcus again. i couldnt help but to laugh again. everyone was just rolling in the floor. so funny.

after we were done with everything, we had a little extra spare time. for some reason or another we all just started wrestling around. i was sitting on the floor, and all the little kids basically attacked me. i would throw one of them off of me and then another one would attack me.

later on, some of the other kids in the group said that all that they could see was a big pile of black kids and my hair.

we had so much fun.

after that, we went back and took naps. some people went to watch the girls basketball game, but i was just too tired.

that night, we decided to go eat supper at o'charleys. we called ahead and told them that we were coming and that there was about 25 of us.

we got there at five and didnt get to sit down for an hour and a half. then, we didnt get our food for another hour. we werent real happy.

we didnt get to do our fellowship activity for the evening because we were so late in getting back from the restaraunt. again, we werent real happy.

everyone crashed fairly early that night.

the senior high girls thought it would be a good idea to go rolling our house. they did, and they actually did a pretty good job. they used about 30 rolls.

one problem. they got caught.

ah, how sweet revenge is. more on that later.

sunday, we went to church and that was the end of the weekend. after church, andy took all of the people that worked it out to lunch.

after lunch, i went to fire by night practice, and then i went home and relaxed before going back to church.

there were very few people at church last night. i guess they were at home asleep, recovering from the weekend. a few of them went to another church to watch a friend of theirs speak.

thus giving us the opportunity for revenge.

we decided that we are going to roll everyone's house individually that was involved on saturday night. last night was the first.

we used 28 rolls and got some of the neighborhood kids to help us out. we rolled the front yard, the back yard, the bushes, the mail box, the porch, everything. we did a really good job, especially for people who had never rolled before.

here is the really good part.

we went to one of the other girls house and put a sign on her car that said, 'you're next'.

we're going to get her on wednesday night.

i cant wait.

it really was a great weekend. God really did move in the live's of everyone involved. i think that everyone got something out of the weekend.

actually, that was what my devotional was about on saturday night. i told them about how i had made plans for friday night with krissy and how i had to cancel them. i told them that i was disappointed about that, and i wasnt really too excited about the weekend. i thought that it wasnt going to be any fun.

but God had really blessed me a lot with the weekend, in many different ways. with the guys that i was staying with and the rest of the youth group as well. with the opportunity to be a leader. with the praise music and worship time. i was really blessed with that one. but most of all, i was blessed with the kids at the apartment complex. i havent been out there in several years and they really just lift my spirits every time i go.

then, i asked all the guys to tell me what they had gotten out of the weekend. it was truly amazing how each and everyone one of them were touched in different ways. i was blown away. and i just praise God for letting me be a part of it.
