"Of our Mobley family in northern Alabama, only two came west to Texas,
Jane Mobley Barefoot and her brother, James Washington Mobley. Little is
known of the family who remained in Alabama.
Our earliest ancestor we know was Wiley Washington Mobley, originally
from South Carolina, who moved to northern Alabama near Florence. We
know of one sister, Nancy Mobley, who married a Twitty.
Wiley Washington Mobley was married twice. The first wife is unknown,
but they had two children, Jack and Charlotte. The second wife was
Catherine Hood. Wiley Mobley died in Alabama. Catherine Hood Mobley
moved with her son, James Washington Mobley, into northeastern Mississippi
where he became a sheriff of Tishomingo county. She died there. Later,
James Washington "Wash" Mobley moved his family to Texas and settled near
the Barefoots. The Mobley family were releated to and intermarried with
the Gracey family and the Harvey family."
