The ISABELLA 1883

Isabella, ketch; When leaving the Catlins River early on the morning of September 14, 1883, the ketch stranded on the sandspit and became a total loss. The crew were saved, but the vessel soon became waterlogged.

The Isabella, No. 52,418, was a ketch of 52 tons register, built at Onehunga, Auckland, in September 1866, by D. Huchinson, and her dimensions were; length 74.4ft, beam 16.5ft, depth 6.1ft. She was under the command of Captain Robert Fullerton, and owned by the Dunedin Iron and Woodware Company. The ketch was insured for 450 pounds
