Issac, Taylor and Zac Hanson, the trio behind 1997's Middle of Nowhere and Snowed In, are young, gorgeous, talented and taken, right? Wrong! These oh-so-beauteous sibs are three free fishes swimmin in the grand, endless sea of singledom. In other words, none of them have girlfriends. And believe us, Boppers, we are not making this up. We wouldn't do that! We got this juicy information straight from the horses'-we mean Hansons'-mouths.
When BOP chatted it up with Hanson, 15-year-old keyboardist Taylor gave us the scoop on their single status. "We don't have girlfriends," he asserts. "None of us do," 17-year-old guitarist Issac adds.
With this in mind, we are sure you are wondering what is that the Hanson brothers are looking for in a girl. After all, in the Hanson love department, girlfriend positions are open, and sooner or later Cupid is bound to strike one of these cuties. So what does it take to apply, we ask?
To our suprise, Issac tells us that he doesn't have a perfect picture of his soul mate in mind. "I don't have a certain type," he says. "It's not a good idea. If you have a type, then you limit yourself and you might be closing your mind to a wonderful girl who could suprise you."
Like his older brother, Taylor isn't likely to run off with the first girl he finds attravtive either. It takes more than a pretty face to make Taylor go gaga. Sure, he apprecuates a pretty girl when he sees her, bue he tells BOP that for him to really like a girl, he has to know her will0he has to like her inside. That's why he doesn't like to say he likes tall or short girls, blondes, brunettes, or redheads, because then all of his fams will forever think that is his type. "I always get asked what kind of girls I think are attractive, [like] which member of the Spice Girls I like. If I pick one out, people will think I fancy her," he says. "I think Baby Spice looks the best, but that doesn't mean I fancy her." He doesn't fancy her? Whew! Taylor fans... breathe in, breathe out! Where's the love?
All right, enough about Issac and Taylor, what about cutie patutie Zac? "I don't have a girlfriend either," the 12-year-old drummer says.
But wait! Before you start doing cartwhells, Zac fans, you must know this hyperactive, fun-loving, little bro is in no hurry to find love. Zac knows that there is a time and a place for everything-and he is having too much fun playing his music and his games to think about getting serious about a girl. "That's all in the future for me," he says. "I don't know what love is all about yet. I've got to find that out. [But] I am more into playing games at the moment and I think if I had a girlfriend, she'd get bored of that." Bored of Zac? The chances are unlikely, but we understand what he means. After all, you can't hurry love. No, you just have to wait!
But just because Zac says he'll be free for a while doesn't mean that he doesn't think about the kind of girl he'd like to go on a date with. "Hot chicks!" he tells BOP in his usual joking manner. "I don't know. There are a lot of hot chicks out there!" Adds Taylor of the girlfriend possibilities, "There is a whole world." (Okay, before all you riot grrrls go marching for womankind, Zac was joking when he calls girls chicks. Seriously!)
Althoughh Zac may say that he doesn't know much about falling in love yet, we beg to differ. There is a lot of wisdom in the songs he and his brothers paly for their fans. Taylor explains that even though they are young and barely beginning their long lives, they know enough about love and relationships to write songs about it-and to touch thousands of hearts with their tunes, we may add. "We are writing songs about our lives and our girlfriends leaving us," Taylor says. "'MMMBop' is about relationships. The first verse is 'You may have many relationships in this life, and only one or two will last. And you go through the pain and strife and you turn your back and they're gone so fast.'" So true! In an MMMBop they're gone!
Speaking of loved ones leaving fast, there is one reason why Issac, Taylor, and Zac are free right now. They work so hard in the band, they don't spend enough time anywhere to get to know a special girl. But during our chat, they tell us that they are not bummed about it. They simply understand that at this point in their lives, it's really okay to be three bachelor brothers building a successful music career. Besides, it would be very difficult to have a girlfriend because they would miss her terribly when they were out of town on tour. "I'll see you once and then I'll see you next year. What's the point?" Zac reels off about the would-be dating situation.
Listening to Zac talk so seriously about having a girlfriend makes Issac and Taylor laugh. See, they think that not having enought itme is not the only think keeping Zac single. Let's say he had all the time in the workd and met the greatest girl ever. Where would he go? "He can't drive. 'Hey mom, can you take me to the drive-in and then leave?'" Taylor jokes, imitating Zac on a date.
After a few moments of silence, Taylor thinks about what he just said. Looking at Zac's eager and determined face, Taylor admits that there are very few things that can stop his little brother from getting what he wants. The fact is, Taylor knows that if Zac wanted to go some place, he could probably get there without help. "Zac would probably drive if you let him, but I don't think that you should," Taylor says, laughing. Don't worry, no matter how cute he is, we won't.
