As of Nov 24, it appears that 9475 will not be resumed for WWCR-1, so our Friday 1030 will stay on 3210. Furthermore, the switch time from 15685 to 3210 will remain 2200 instead of 2100, which means our Thu 2130 broadcast will stay on 15685 unlike previous Dec-Jan-Feb on 9475. But MUNDO RADIAL, Fridays 2215 will also be on 3210 instead of 9475. Yes, 3210, since WWCR also advises us that from Dec 1 that will replace 3215, as REE/Costa Rica is no longer using 3210 (gh, DXLD) ** AFGHANISTAN. [see THE MEDIA MIND, by Loren Cox, below] ** AFGHANISTAN [non]. UnID: India or Egypt? Earlier on 2001-11-23 I reported a signal on 9950 as being RVoA. Apparently not the case, as suggested by Wolfgang Büschel and Glenn Hauser. HFCC shows India in use 1500-0130, Egypt 16-18. Whatever was heard definitely not on the frequency prior to 1532 UT, definitely no AIR IS heard. If it was Egypt, Cairo was on early than scheduled. I was listening on the frequency from before 1500. Details of 2001-11-23 log again: 1532 UTC, carrier on, weak s2 or so, but quite noticeable. 1533 1 kHz tone, builds in strength to s7 or so in a few minutes. 1538 programming starts, talking, music by 1545. Very low studio mike audio levels compared to music, tone (Tom Sundstrom, NJ, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Back at 1330, when RVOA is definitely on 9950, not a trace Nov 24, nor at 1338 recheck in a WESAT break. I attributed this to a propagation disturbance, since a quick scan of 31m found virtually no audible/usable signals above the RA transequatorial blaster on 9580, Martí 9565. (Except Tashkent in English on 9715 was weak but clear.) However, at 1358 rerecheck, 9950 was on with a strong but flutterier than usual signal, so maybe they were actually quite late coming on this date (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Propagationwise strong and clear audio on Wed, Thu, Sat, but weak signal and muffled audio on Fri. On Sat 24th, R V of Afghanistan came on air late at 1349 UT, and had few breaks till 1352 UT, when transmission had been stabilized. Propaganda War. -- Maybe all these activities are sponsored by the US secret services, like they did sponsoring Bin Laden in the 80ies and 90ies, the anti-Vietnamese; see under Germany, V of Tibet, Mesopotamia, Sudan/Eritrean/Ethiopian factions, Rep of Iraq R/Voice of Iraqi People from Jeddah, Sa`udi Arabia to Iraq, R Barabari via [Mossad?] Jerusalem (!7480.16), also many anti-Iranian Persian activities via Grigoriopol`, Moldova, a.s.o., a.s.o. Similar programs on 17520, 11630, and 7520 have been heard from opposite-Persian programs from Moldova towards Iran - like R Voice of Iran -, mostly sponsored programs of US California local MW stations, also broadcasting in Persian there in the US (Wolfgang Büschel, Nov 24, BC-DX via DXLD) [Items circulated about the 9950 station by ``Col. Jon Standingbear`` and ``Capt. Charles, Acting CO``] are completely false (Hans Johnson- FL-USA, BC-DX Nov 23 via DXLD) Meanwhile, this Saturday Radio Voice of Afghanistan leaves the music to transmit news. Maybe, they were talking about 2000 talibans' surrender. We are in contact. See you and 73 (Adolfo Murrieta, Gto., Nov 24, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Radio Sada e Afghanistan (Voice of Afghanistan) is booming in here in Punjab on 9950 kHz. Monitored today (24-11-2001) from 1415 to 1430 UT with program in Farsi [Dari]. News with references to Chechnya, Pakistani & Al Qaida, Wth [?] & Commentary by OM. Station s/off at 1430. Any ideas about transmitters? Could be in Iran or Central Asia? 73s, (Harjot Singh Brar, for GRDXC via DXLD) ** ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS. 4760, 23 Nov 2325, AIR Port Blair. Finally I got a clear ID here and they had a program of Christian psalm-singing in local language. Also local news, because Port Blair was mentioned several times. Good signal, but fading at 0030. 73 Good DX-ing (Johan Berglund, Trollhättan, Sweden, AR7030 K9AY longwire, dx_india via DXLD) ** BELARUS`. I am a few weeks behind catching up on WOR, so I am not sure if you mentioned this already, but... Radio Minsk's external service has started a web site to archive their English and German language service for on-demand listening. The site, http://www.tvr.by/Files_eng/General_e.htm presently offers the current week's Tuesday and Thursday's English service and Wednesday and Saturday's German service. Windows Media Player is required and each broadcast lasts 30 minutes. Comments about the external service audio streaming are welcomed at: radio-minsk@tvr.by The domestic 1st Channel of the Belarusian Radio is also now being streamed live on the Internet, and can be accessed from the link on the aforementioned URL. Those programs are exclusively in Belarusian. A shortwave schedule for the external service is also available from that site. It seems the service uses just one male announcer for its English service, with occasional reports by correspondents also in English. Programs are primarily focused on news and current affairs, as well as short features about Belarus`' integration in Europe and its relations with the rest of the world. The German service has two announcers, a man and a woman. Despite the autocratic nature of Belarus`' leader, Alexander Lukashenko, the station's reports about him seem to be focused on his diplomatic overtures and his efforts to "democratize" the country and keep it relevant, particularly for Europe. The web site's English language station information page claims Radio Minsk was one of the most "independent" voices on the airwaves, even during Soviet times. It claims the station's journalists strive for independence and straightforward reporting. That's what they say anyway, but I doubt few listeners to Soviet-era stations from the republics would have found that the case. That honor probably first belonged to Radio Vilnius, followed by Radio Kiev (Phillip Dampier, Rochester, NY, Nov 24, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CROATIA [non]. Croatia at 0400 UT: not found on 7285 on Nov. 24, and I've not found them on any new frequency to replace it, so I wonder if they are using two transmitters on 9925 now? Also, I did check DXLD 1-149 and yes, Croatia is indeed using slightly different beams on the two frequencies at 00, 02 and 04, per the original schedule (Joe Hanlon in Philadelphia, Nov 24, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Actually, don`t believe I ever heard CRZ on 7285, checked several times after the change was announced. Perhaps some scruples prevented them after all from invading 40m? (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ERITREA [non]. Does anybody know which Arab-speaking station broadcasts on 21550 kHz at 1400-1430*? In Arabic, it called itself "Idhaatu Sawt-ul Qard", and immediately gave an English ID which sounded like "This is Malayan Voice" or so. Heard it yesterday, 21 November. 73, (Dmitri Mezin, Kazan, Russia, hard-core-dx Nov 20 [sic] via DXLD) Glenn, 23rd November 2001, 21550 kHz, 1336 UT, Unidentified Station with several IDs of: Malayan Voice and also giving the address of voiceoferitrea@americaonline.com Here are the full details of the transmission on 23/11/2001: 1336 Sign on with Music and No ID. Africa (Wolfgang Büschel, BC-DX Nov 23 via DXLD) ** HONG KONG. I just had a look at http;//www.rhkyc.org.hk/chinacoastraceweek.htm --- the website of the World Hong Kong Yacht Club telling that the China Coast Race Week 2001 was running from 19-27 Oct, 2001. So, it's over now, but they have announcement for the next China Coast Race Week, which will run from Oct 12-19, 2002. They really announce weather broadcasts: "RTHK will broadcast a special weather forecast for boats in the Hong Kong to Sanya Race. This will be broadcast on SW 3940 at the times stated in the skipper packs." So, we will have another chance next year, or may be even earlier during another race. Would be nice to catch them on SW; I visited them back in 1989 (Harald Kuhl, Germany, DXplorer, Nov 21 via BC-DX via DXLD) I visited them back in 1986 (gh, FL, DXLD) ** IRAN. Re BBCM report in 1-180: ``"Voice of Al-Aqsa Intifadah from Tehran" heard on SW A previously unheard Arabic-language radio stn identifying itself as "Voice of Al-Aqsa Intifadah from Tehran" (Arabic: "Sawt Intifadat al- Aqsa min Tehran") was observed by BBC Monitoring on 22 November. (Al- Aqsa is the name of a mosque in Jerusalem and is the third holiest place of pilgrimage in the Islamic world after Mecca and Medina.) The brooadcast was heard on 7105 and 7175 kHz SW from tune-in at 1909 gmt until it went off the air at 1928 gmt....`` Hello Glenn, that's n o t a new service, EXCEPT the program title has been changed ??? Has been noted in previous A-01 season from March 25th as -- EBRI service of Voice of IRIB Tehran, and also appeared on their various websites. Glenn, in your recent comment - some four weeks ago -, you said that - assumed - the VoIRIB has difficulties to recruit Hebrew speaking people in Iran to do the Hebrew announcer job. [my point was the difficulty in finding *politically-correct* Hebrew speakers in Iran - gh] And the station used ENGLISH language announcers instead, on that 30 minutes service. So, the program may changed to another Palestine program in Arabic language ???? Now I will cut some pieces with COOL EDIT 2000 software to a handy piece of few minutes. 7105 seems to be from KAM Kamalabad site near Tehran. Despite 7175 was a fraction of a second (half second?) behind 7105 kHz! So latter assumed to originate from Sirjan site, is much stronger, assumed 500 kW 310/340 degrees? Started recording on 7105 kHz, because of undisturbed flank on adjacent 7100 channel. But the 265 degrees azimuth signal resulted in a more "background" signal. 33322 Then monitored \\ 7175 on the handy Sony ICF-2010, and decided to switch to 7175...7177 kHz flank immediately. 3-4 Signal was stronger, but suffered QRM by 7170 kHz Russian language program [HFCC: Novosibirsk 500 kW 295 degrees?]. 7105 signal broke away around 1916 UT, back at 19.19:40, but another break 'for ever' at 19.22:00 UT, signal didn't resume on this channel. 7175 remained undisturbed till 19.27:45 UT transmitter off. Interval music of VoIRIB Tehran before cut off (Wolfgang Büschel, Germany, BC-DX Nov 24 and DX LISTENING DIGEST) Voice of Al-Aqsa Intifadah is a new Arabic service on shortwave from VIRI Tehran, aimed at Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. An audio clip of this can be heard on the Israel page of the Interval Signals Archive at http://www.intervalsignals.net (Dave Kernick, Hard-Core-DX mailing list Nov 24 via DXLD) ** MALI. 9634.96, ORTM Bamako, at *0800-0900 Nov 18 on their daytime freq without any IS or ID (Thomas Lindenthal, Germany, dswci DXW, via BC-DX via DXLD) ** MEXICO. I'm trying to know what had happened with Radio Educación, because I have listened to Radio Mexico Internacional on 6185 kHz, before used by Radio Educación (Alfredo Murrieta G., Guanajuato, Nov 23, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hi Glenn! As I told you in my last e-mail, Radio Educación has had some technical problems the last days. According to Radio Educación they are doing maintenance in their antenna and transmitter; this causes low signal power or absence of signal. But they couldn't tell me why did I hear Radio Mexico Internacional on 6185 last Wednesday? (Adolfo Murrieta, Nov 24, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NETHERLANDS. Glenn, For your records here is the Voice of Nigeria e mail address; the station is heard by me on 15.120 MHz at 0500 and 2130. Signals and programming greatly improved; future plans are to broadcast in other languages too. They are asking for reception reports for a new VON QSL card and programme sked. 73,s. (Costa Constantinides, Cyprus, Nov 24, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hi Costas. Have just obtained the e-mail address for Voice Of Nigeria off a message on the internet. It is vonlagos@fiberia.com Hope this helps. Regards, (Ian Cattermole, New Zealand, Nov 23 via Costas, DXLD) ** POLAND. In regard to R Polonia's consideration to "shut down" the SW transmissions (BC-DX #548), the situation is such that R Polonia actually is considering the use of sites outside of Poland for some of their transmissions instead of the Warsaw SW facilities. There are important target areas like the Polish diaspora in Kazakhstan which can only be reached by SW (Bernd Trutenau, Lithuania, Nov 20, BC-DX via DXLD) ** QATAR. New schedule of QBS Doha monitored here in November: 7210 1700-2130 (heard 2130 under BLR). 15345 1300-1700 (heard 1630 with Doha ID at 1700 - under RTM Rabat, Morocco). 17755 0245-2130 (heard 1630-2025 under REE). 17770 0245-1300 (Anker Petersen, Denmark, DXW dswci Nov 20 via BC-DX via DXLD) ** RUSSIA. 15455, MCB Samara spurious signal. Maybe you can tell you your colleagues at CRR-3 Samara station, that today Sat 24th, at 0600-0900 UT the R Marya, Polish religious program outlet on 15455 kHz, 250 kW at 280 degrees, had -- two spurious signal emissions 58.3 kHz away each, on symmetrically -- 15396.7 and 15513.3 kHz channels. Both signals about of 3.5 kHz width, and of WARBLING type (Wolfgang Büschel, Germany, BC-DX to Mikhail Timofeyev, Russia, Nov 24, BC-DX via DXLD)) Thanks. Will have a phone talk with Samara tomorrow.... (Timofeyev, ibid.) ** RUSSIA. According to monitoring Nov 23, Radiostantsiya Tikhiy Okean Vladivostok announces its frequencies as 243 & 810. No mention of SW, but good signal here 0715-0800 on 7175 kHz (Hironao Oguma, Japan, Nov 23, BC-DX via DXLD) ** RUSSIA. Hi Glenn, R. Samorodinka is a hobby pirate, not a broadcasting station. The "owner" claims to have the license #02244 from 1993, but a check in the Russian broadcasting license database reveals that no such broadcasting license was ever issued to R. Samorodinka: 1. There is only ONE type of license for broadcasting in/from Russia (the same license applies for state/private broadcasters, wireless/cable transmissions), this license is clearly defined as being issued for "broadcasting to a national, regional or local audience or to an audience abroad". 2. Broadcasting license #1 was issued on 3.4.1992 to a private TV company in the Saratov oblast. In 1993, the highest issued broadcasting license number was #445, issued on 19.12.1993 to "Avtoradio" in Moscow. 3. Broadcasting license #2244 was issued on 12.11.1996 for a 20 Watts private TV-station in the small town Toropets in the Tver oblast. 4. The conclusion is that the license #02244 from 1993 claimed by R. Samorodinka is not a broadcasting license (it could be any license issued in connection with radio amateur activities, for example, the "owner" is a radio amateur), R. Samorodinka is not a licensed broadcasting station. 73s, (Bernd Trutenau, Lithuania, Nov 24, DX LISTENING DIGEST) I believe we published similar info some months ago; maybe you can tell us what the name of the station means? (gh, DXLD) ** UKRAINE. 11825: Had a look into the RUI DX and Letterbox program in English on Sundays 1225 UT, aimed to NAm and WEu target. Instead of scheduled 11720 and 15520 kHz channels, which were OFF that Sunday Nov 18, I heard the letterbox program on 11825 kHz only. That's strange, due to channel parameters: 11825 at 0600-1600; Kyiv; 093 degrees; aimed eastwards to Central Asia (Kazakhstan) instead (Wolfgang Büschel, Germany, BC-DX via DXLD) ** U S A. W1AW schedules transatlantic, OSCAR celebrations in December: Maxim Memorial Station W1AW will be on the air December 3-7 to honor the 80th anniversary of the 1921 transatlantic tests. Listen for W1AW/80 on many HF, VHF and UHF bands (including satellites). W1AW also will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Amateur Radio satellite--OSCAR I--launched into orbit on December 12, 1961. W1AW will be on the air as W1AW/40 December 10-14 on as many of the active satellites as possible. A special QSL will be available for contacts or SWL reports on both events. QSL requests for W1AW/80 and W1AW/40, 225 Main St, Newington, CT 06111. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope (or appropriate number of IRCs) with each request (ARRL Letter Nov 23 via John Norfolk, DXLD) ** U S A [clandestine]. ALGERIA. 7460, National R of the Saharan Democratic Rep., Lehlu, Morocco[sic], Nov 2 & 13, 1815-2050, Ar nx and talks, tribal mx. 34443 (Torre Ekblom, Finland & Anker Petersen, Denmark, DXW dswci via BC-DX via DXLD) This clandestine station is run by Polisario --- Frente Popular para la Liberación de Saguia el-Hamra y de Rio de Oro. Western Sahara was occupied by Morocco 26 years ago which then was the Spanish colony of Rio de Oro. Supported by Algeria and Mauritania, the native nomads, however offered resistance to the Moroccans in what later became the Polisario Liberation Front. A UN controlled cease fire was established in 1991, but Morocco still claims that the vast desert and coastal area is Moroccan territory which could be offered local self-govt. During the past month the young King Mohammed VI of Morocco has emphasized this by visiting --- on horseback --- most of the cities in Western Sahara (DXW - Anker Petersen, Denmark, dswci Nov 21 via BC-DX via DXLD) ** YEMEN. 9780.4, Rep of Yemen R San'a, noticed weaker than 9779.66. It seems they alternately use two different transmitters. The WRTH says they have a 50 kW and a 300 kW, both in San`a, so I think when they use 9780.4 they're going with 50 kW, and when they use 9779.66 (much stronger), they use the 300 kW (probably not full power, but, say, 200 or 150 kW). They`re switching between the two daily (Roberto Ciappi, Italy, DXW dswci Nov 20 via BC-DX via DXLD) UNIDENTIFIED. On the 22nd of Nov I heard a strange voice mirror on 4866 USB. Male voice in French: "Test de motor (?). Ceci est une émission destinée au réglage de vos récepteurs". This was followed by mentioning all days of the week and all months of the year. Did anybody else hear this transmission? (Max van Arnhem, The Netherlands, Hard-Core-DX mailing list via DXLD) WORLD OF TELEPHONES [following up item under USA [and non] in last issue:] http://www.lincmad.com/index.html is a good reference. Now you can't tell whether an area code is for across town or for sexphone land without a program. What used to be called 809 scams have been given a whole new lease on life thanks to area codes like 473 for Grenada and 664 for what's left of Montserrat. (I don't know if they have this elsewhere but in NYC they have signs all over like "Hospitals are hiring. Call 540-xyza" 540 is a premium phone exchange and the call will cost you $15-$20 and probably not be all that useful. Scamming someone who needs a job seems egregious.) The official site for whoever's administering the +1 country code these days (it changes every few years) is http://www.nanpa.com/ Here you can learn more than you ever wanted to know about the plans for relieving area code congestion on the upper peninsula of Michigan by introducing a new partial overlay in 2005. A quick way of locating many phone numbers: to locate abc-def-ghij plug "abc-def" into a search engine and see if the results includes anything with a phone number in the exchange and an address. (Joel Rubin, NY, Nov 23, DX LISTENING DIGEST) THIS DAY`S FRENCH LESSON [I meant to include the following in last issue before my remarx -gh] Come on, Glenn, Give the language diversity another chance, as this occasionally has been a delicious ingredient to your highly esteemed DXLD, with other languages. This even more as French is indeed a highly cultural language, and a political as well, and also international organisations use it as one of their official languages. If I can help you with French, I would be delighted to do so. Saudi Arabia (EE) = Arabie Saoudite (FF); South Africa (EE) = Afrique du Sud (FF). wacky (EE) = niais (FF) = bloed (DE) Your DXLDs are not only a very valuable source of information for DX, but also happen to occasionally be a splendid platform of lyrics! For thru the covering woods And moving from cave to cave as a crazed wounded bull He follows the path of his wretchedness Forlorn & desperate trying to escape the doom Swooping down on him As a squawking swarm of meat-eating birds Steve (United Patriot Radio) Anderson`s current situation brought to mind these lines from my ``translation`` of Sophokles` Oedipus Rex, tho` I suspect the jolly gentleman from Somerset (yes, his farm is really closer to Mt. Vernon) finds himself in circumstances possibly not yet as dire as those faced by the king of Thebes. But he remains a ``fugitive on the loose`` charged with attempted murder of a police officer. We may find out who is more resourceful at hiding his whereabouts, bin Laden or Steve. If ever cornered it appears the son of YHWH will go down with guns blazing; don`t know about the son of Allah. Despite the absence of UPR on 6900, amusing radio continues to be heard from time to time on that frequency, tho` not with the sinister dimension as was formerly the case. Last evening (31 Oct., UTC), I heard, again, ``Take It Easy Radio`` (P.O. Box 1, Belfast, NY 14711) with Halloween type programming (TIER ends programming with a mock greeting to Steve ``wherever he is``). Also heard on the frequency has been ``United Patriot Militia Bingo Radio`` doing satires of UPR making use of recordings of Steve. Presumably it was one or the other of these broadcasters (or maybe someone else) who would heckle Steve during the course of his broadcasts. The TIER signal is very good, the UPMBR signal a bit less so. I`m not ``up`` on the ``pirate radio`` scene, but apparently TIER is John T. Arthur. [3 Nov.: last evening ``WHYP`` heard on 6925, a freq. Also used by UPMBR.] {Later: Mr. Arthur demands an apology for this supposition, and asserts he is not TIEM or any other pirate, but merely operates the Merlin maildrop. -gh} It will be interesting to see if the FCC goes after others operating stations on 6900 after permitting Steve to broadcast illegally with impunity for many months, and, presumably, would still be doing so were it not for the incident in Bell County. One proffered explanation is that the ``Feds`` didn`t want to risk another Ruby Ridge type of incident, which might have occurred had they sent persons onto Steve`s property in an attempt to shut the station down. Unquestionably there would have been a shoot-out with possible casualties, Steve among them, which would have provoked ``patriot`` reprisals: another Murrah Building type incident? --- but I forgot, the government actually blew up that building; poor Tim just some sort of set up in the whole hideous plot just as the Jews are really responsible for the Twin Towers demolition. The FCC, however, is less reticent when it comes to going after some kid`s unlicensed LP FM station, or someone doing neighborhood public service broadcasting. Evidently Tim Hendel (RFPI: FRRR) picked up my report of hearing a brief announcement, ``This is United Patriot Radio``, a couple of nights (as I recall) after the Bell county incident. The signal was weak and there was nothing else. The voice appeared to be Steve`s; possibly someone playing a tape. The sudden appearance and disappearance of the voice seemed almost ghost-like, coming out of the ether. I thought Steve might have been testing a small portable transmitter, or had even gotten back to his farm, one conjecture being that was where he might be headed despite that being most unlikely. Tim also wondered why there was no report of Steve`s escapade on Kentucky`s most powerful and widely heard AM radio station, WHAS in Louisville. (Could WHAS`s now being owned by the right-wing loving Clear Channel Communications have anything to do with it? But Steve would surely be too disreputable even for the disseminator of Limburger, et al.) WHAS was once the property of the ``pinko Commie`` Bingham family, publishers of that ``pinko Commie sheet``, the Louisville Courier-Journal (now Gannett owned). [When WHAS went on the air in the early 1920s, C-J editor, Col. Henry Watterson, said it would allow ``a man in his cabin in the hills to hear Beethoven`` -- no LvB played on WHAS in over 50 years.] Two Lexington TV stations, WKYT & WLEX (don`t know about WTVQ), gave coverage to the Steve story, the latter having a report from the offices of the Somerset newspaper --- which Steve was threatening to sue for $5M --- interviewing the editor (whom Steve would like to have exterminated, along with the Pulaski County Sheriff, perhaps a contributor to this publication [because of a bit of seemingly apropos alliteration], and many others --- he ``knows who you are``. It would appear that Steve ultimately could be satisfied only by a Pol Pot type cleansing of the society, necessary for the restoration of the American Republic as it was in 1800.) Excerpts from SA broadcasts were played on a cassette unit. And I rather doubt Steve, today, is hiding out in any cave, probably being warm and comfortable someplace (North Carolina?) with one or some of his admirers. But remaining silent for long is surely incompatible with his nature. There is no doubting the joy he got from his nightly tirades; and he was quite a performer; tho` as Tim pointed out, one or two broadcasts were sufficient to get his ``message``. Why did I listen to the broadcasts and even bother to comment on them? They were originating just a few miles from me (about 60), and I`m a connoisseur of outrageous opinion, in which, almost by accident, or arrived at wrongly, a chord of truth might be struck, tho` by no means justifying the thesis as a whole. If one believes in freedom of speech, then one must also be willing to say with Voltaire: ``Thought I disagree with everything you say, I will defend with my life your right to say it``? That could be a bit difficult at times, but the principle expressed is inexpugnable. It would be interesting to know what materials were confiscated from Anderson`s farm, they having been sealed by the court as possible evidence to be used if he is ever brought to trial. It would seem that on the basis of his utterances alone he could be charged with sedition. His property proved to be strangely accessible: no guards, mastiffs, mines or whatever. Anderson denied being a racist, despite the ``mud people`` status assigned to blacks by the Christian Identity religion to which he is an adherent. He professed no enmity toward blacks, tho`, of course, interracial marriage is an abomination, that presumably being enough to merit one being labeled a ``racist``. His homophobia was oft expressed. I don`t know much about the militia/patriot movement, Anderson evidently being a part of its more extremist element. Are M/Ps just a bunch of civic minded good old boys who like to take target practice, wear combat fatigues ad practice military skills? Or are they something more akin to the Brown Shirts in Germany in the latter 1920s? The movement is probably composed of both, with gradations in- between. Anderson, on the basis of his utterances, seems to be more of the BS variety. Parallels: The BSs were the true German patriots, and their enemies were the Jews (who`d betrayed Germany during the war for their own profit), the Socialists and Communists (today`s ``liberals``) and the ``New World Order`` of that day as established by the Treaty of Versailles. I`ll leave it to others to speculate on what grouse against life may have set Steve off. He is a man not without intelligence, skills and a certain charisma, who found support (e.g., the ``Franklin Hoax``) for his own prejudices and paranoia, they being the distorting lenses thru which he sees and interprets every event in ways that to others are simply ludicrous. Tho` UPR is gone, the ``Yahweh`s Truth`` program, for which Anderson was providing a shortwave outlet, continues on satellite via the Truth Radio Network #2 (Galaxy 9, Tr. 2, 5.8 MHz; TRN #1 is on the 5.4 MHz subcarrier --- so much ``truth`` to be disseminated these days, TRN requires two channels; The Genesis Network, featuring Alex Jones and others, continues on the 7.3 MHz subcarrier on this transponder). Wickstrom and others hold forth on the YT program with utterances so repulsive and disgusting I wouldn`t care to repeat them, e.g., the ones regarding the Jewish Blood Ritual. Since the program is on satellite, there must be broadcast outlets for it someplace, tho` I can`t imagine any self-respecting broadcaster carrying this stuff. Still, I cannot object to these views being placed in that ``market place of ideas`` --- for when some ideas are a bacillus, there are others that are a disinfectant for them, tho` there have been occasions in human history when the infection, for a time, has gotten out of control. There are some serious forest fires going on in the area where Steve was last seen; will he be smoked out? Possibly, if he were still there. We see that CNN`s resident liberal, Bill Press, believes, as do I, that the American public should hear bin Laden`s utterances unedited. I want to know what the fucker has to say, even tho` it has to be via translation, which may be less than completely accurate, perhaps missing what could be significant nuances. Don`t believe I or any other `Murkin is likely to be influenced --- as Dr. Rice evidently fears --- by anything he says: but if his utterances represent what he truly believes, they being in any event the story he is telling the world, we should be fully apprised of them. Of course it`s Arabic/Moslem opinion that he is attempting to mold, and via Al Jazeera and other outlets his word, evidently effectively, is getting to the audience with which he is primarily concerned in his effort to foment a Jihad against America, which is somehow both Christian and secular --- being the enemy either way. Can a U.S. propaganda effort be in anyway an effective disinfectant against the bin Laden bacillus already infecting Moslem minds? Actually b L is making use of two bacilli: the already existing ones of Arab/Moslem resentment against the U.S., and that which is arguably the worse bacillus of all ever to infect the human mind: religion.* [There being, perhaps, an overuse of the ``bacillus`` figure in the foregoing.] *Religions can have an aesthetic and poetic component which I can enjoy, and have been an inspiration for artists whose work I can admire and enjoy without believing what they believe, as per my playing with Dante: ``The universe, according to its nature, spinning about its core that does not move, receives from here [the Primum Mobile] the impetus of its turning. This heaven has no locus save the mind of God where flames the love that turns it and the power it rains, while light and love embrace it as a single circle, which embraces all the others, the embracing of the utmost circle being His alone. And being itself immeasurable it yet provides the measure for the other moving spheres as factors of ten are two and five. And so it should be clear to you, time`s tree is rooted in this sphere, its foliage flourishing in the others...`` [PARADISO XXVII] (Loren Cox, Jr., Lexington, KY, Nov. 1, exclusive for DX LISTENING DIGEST; retyped by gh, hoping the tabs hold) ###
