CALENDAR

MONITORING REMINDERS, INTERNET AND BROADCAST

This page deals with interesting new items, and programs making special appearances you may otherwise miss; DX specials on MW, SWBC, and occasionally ham. Most of the info has been or will be mentioned in greater detail in DX LISTENING DIGEST; references to DXLD issues are as in [2-001]. Late-breaking items, however, may be posted here at any time, so we suggest you check back frequently.

This is an outgrowth of a similar section of RIBOLD, and of our 2001 Holiday Specials page, which is no longer being updated. Items of reference value remain there, namely, the hyperlinx to numerous public radio stations` holiday programming webpages. This should be of assistance when researching similar data for late 2002.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

*By a station means it webcasts; some listings may be webcast, some
may be broadcast, some may be both. In the case of RFPI, webcast, but
not during business hours on weekdays, except for the SW relay pickup.

U = show believed to be unique on one station only, own production;
at least not yet found on others. -XXXX means duration not specified.

Holiday and national day info from Ivan Grishin and
http://www.national-holidays.com
Many thanks also to Ivan for much other valuable input.

Times, days and dates here are strictly UT! Users are strongly urged to
use this zone, which in the long run results in explicit info, lack of
confusion. If you must, add two hours for CEST, subtract: 3 for ADT, 4
for EDT/AST, 5 for CDT/EST, 6 for MDT/CST, 7 for PDT/MST, 8 for ADT/PST,
9 for AST, 10 for HST, etc. At the more sophisticated publicradiofan.com
site (see below) you may set whatever timezone you desire, but of course
will not match listings here unless you go with UT.

CBC Radio 1 times are for first airing in the NT/AT zone feed; u.o.s.,
each repeats 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours later for westward zone webcasts;
but Radio 2 webcast feed is ONLY on ET zone, the times shown here.

BBC R2, R3, R4: we usually post our picks on these networks the night
before, but schedules are available at least a week in advance via
http://www.bbc.co.uk/whatson
These stations are generally not covered here in the 0000-1200 UT period.
BBCWA = Americas stream; BBCWE = Europe stream; BBCWS = combined A and
E stream in the 0000-0500 UT period, best heard when also via BBCR4,
and other networks (see PRF links).

Easy linking to the webcasts, and a great many other listings may be
found at PublicRadioFan.com

At the beginning of each UT day, hit the END key to see if there are any
continuing listings from the previous day at very bottom of this file

SHOWS WE LIKE

Also see separate specific date listings above!

This listing represents gh`s recommended listening to regularly
scheduled weekly shows you may otherwise overlook; as opposed to new and
irregularly scheduled shows in our *dated* listings above. In THIS list,
almost all the radio shows are webcast, and in the case of SW, frequencies
are given. A few TV shows are included, as are shows on commercial radio.
A few hyperlinx given where they may not be obvious. If non-commercial,
you may find more at http://www.publicradiofan.com

KEY: % known to be available on-demand. What this means in reality varies
       greatly, from posted minutes after original airing and there
       indefinitely, to posted for one day only until the next edition
       replace it, to maybe eventually uploaded to an archive. Become
       familiar with the shows you crave to hear and how they handle this.
       Quite a few more shows should be marked with this. In fact, almost
       all BBC domestic and WS programmes are now available ondemand at
       least for one week, so we seldom make a point of %ing them.
     U original production, and/or believed on one station only

BBC WORLD SERVICE

Rather than attempt to list all possible airings on different webcast streams of BBCWS in this schedule, we recommend you listen to them at your convenience. Many, but not all BBCWS programs are available ondemand, for one week following original broadcast, updated at different times and days specified. See list at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/sitemap/index.shtml For example: COMPOSER OF THE MONTH 5 x 25/30 min from Jan 5 updated weekly UT Sat 0405 LISTEN Music of Versailles (week of Jan 12) The reign of Louis XIV of France was a golden age for the arts. His motto was 'superior to all'. In Composer of the Month we hear how he used every musical means at his disposal to prove it. From sunrise to sunset, the ‘Sun King' was surrounded by music of unsurpassed finesse and splendour. BBC RADIO 4 LISTEN AGAIN ondemand audio page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/listenagain.shtml Includes i.a. some that we list, and some that are also on the World Service, supposedly for only 7 days after broadcast. Drama and comedy are said to be excluded: CROSSING CONTINENTS, DAWN CHORUS DAY, FOUR CORNERS, FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT, HITCHHIKER`S GUIDE TO THE FUTURE, LETTER FROM AMERICA, ROUTES OF ENGLISH, THINKING ALLOWED. ALISTAIR COOKE`S LETTER FROM AMERICA (BBCWS & BBCR4) This website does not appear to have any audio links, nor are the Letters dated; but the latest is at the top of the list, and if you click on it, not only do you get the full text, but an audio link. Many previous LFAs are also there: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/letter_from_america/default.stm WISH YOU'D BEEN HERE - A HISTORY OF PINK FLOYD Originally broadcast February 2002 on BBC Radio 2 CBC RADIO IDEAS ROOTS OF RESENTMENT: America, Great Britain and the Arab World. 60 minutes, Dec. 2001.
