Regarded as a potential young talent due to his success in the juniors, the Habs gave Ribeiro a chance in 1999-2000 but soon found him to be a disappointment. The hype surrounding Ribeiro was even more emphasized by the media and Montreal soon realized that Ribeiro wasn't quite ready for the NHL just yet. Ribeiro spent the rest of that season in the minors but re-surfaced to play a couple of games in 2000-2001 before being sent down again.
In 2001-2002, Ribeiro has matured enough that the Habs are giving him another chance on the team. Ribeiro took full advantage of that chance, playing 29 games scoring 17 points before the All-Star break. That earned him a trip to the All-Star to represent the Habs as a "Young Star" in the All-Stars under 25 category.
Things seem be looking good for Ribeiro after a nightmare start in the league in 1999-2000. Ribeiro is a quick player who knows where the net is and his offensive prowess should aid the Habs on their quest to the playoffs.
