When the Canadiens acquired Karl Dykhuis from the Philadelphia Flyers on October 21, 1999 for future considerations, they expected him to add experience and size to the team. Dykhuis is a big man at 6'3" and 214 lbs so those pesky forwards better stay out of his way. Dykhuis is actually not a particularly physical defenceman but his experience should allow him to know enough about positioning.

Dykhuis was glad to be returning home when he heard that he was traded to Montreal since he grew up in Sept-Iles watching the Canadiens every Saturday night. He played junior hockey for coach Alain Vigneault with the Hull Olympiques so playing under Vigneault shouldn't be anything new. He also won a gold medal at the world junior championship in 1992 so his resume is not all that shabby either.

Hopefully the Habs can use him to his full potential. He should be able to help the Habs on defence but now if only he could score some goals like Malakhov . . .
