FAQ
Do I
have to schedule an introductory meeting before starting the program?
It is recommended that you do—your teacher, Greg Britt, will be able to help you better after this brief meeting.
When should I set up my 3 private sessions?
You’ll have 3 complete practice tests—one at the beginning, one in the middle, and the last at the end of your program. It’s a good idea to schedule your private sessions right after these tests so that you can review individual errors. But you’re free to schedule the sessions whenever you like.
How
many points can I expect to raise my TOEFL score?
Good students can sometimes improve their scores between 40 and 60 points.
Can I get over 600 points in this course?
That depends on your level when you start. If you begin around 550, you should be able to reach 600 with hard work and careful study.
What’s a good score?
There’s really no “pass” or “fail”. Many national programs and scholarship opportunities are available with scores of 450-500. Most American colleges require 550 and higher. Only the most competitive schools require 600.
What’s
the Institutional TOEFL?
This test is generally accepted on a national level. You’ll use pencil and paper to take 3 sections, listening, grammar, and reading. There is no essay on this test (nor speaking section).
What’s
the difference between ITP and iBT?
The ITP, or Institutional TOEFL, is not generally accepted for international college admission. The iBT is internet-based and includes testing of integrated skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Will
this program help me prepare for the iBT?
Yes, it’s a very good pre-iBT course (and required by Greg Britt for iBT classes). This program provides a good foundation in grammar. Even though grammar is not specifically tested on the iBT, it is an important part of the grading criteria and most students will benefit greatly from taking this program before starting to prepare for the iBT.
Can I prepare for the iBT with Greg Britt?
Yes, but only after completing this basic program first. Then Britt offers iBT training in private (not group) classes. All classes are taught “live” (not pre-recorded) and it will be necessary to purchase a separate text book. These classes can be scheduled through the Teacher James web site. You can discuss the details in one of your private sessions.
What
do I do if I need help during my program?
Technical and accounting issues are handled through Teacher James. Academic questions or specific program problems can be addressed to Greg Britt via e-mail. Be aware that you also have an answer key in your e-book download if you just need to check some work in your book.
