Braves announcer Skip Caray's father, Harry Caray, who took millions of fans out to the ball game on radio and television with the Chicago Cubs, died Wednesday, February 18, four days after collapsing at a Valentine's Day dinner. He was believed to be 77. A broadcaster since 1941, Caray became a household name through his Chicago Cubs' games for WGN-TV, his sing-along renditions of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" over the public address system during the seventh-inning stretch, and his enthusiastic, "Holy Cow!" whenever the Cubs players performed well on the field. Caray won the Ford C. Frick Award in 1989 to put him in the broadcast wing of the baseball Hall of Fame, and he was elected to the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame in 1988. He was the patriarch of a three-generation broadcast family, including Skip and his grandson Chip Caray. In addition to his wife, Caray is survived by five children, five stepchildren, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
