Rest in Peace Dale Earnhardt
On Saturday, March 24th, 2001 I was at a car show inside the Daytona International Speedway and as I was walking around enjoying all the nice cars I looked up at turn four and saw the skid marks from Earnhardt's crash. I was amazed at the lack of recognition of this major event in racing history. There are no wreathes, no flowers, no flags, nothing, except the skid marks. But I guess it would be wrong to remind other drivers every time they went around that curve of the tragic event that happened at that particular spot. After all, 26 other drivers have lost their lives in the history of this track. I noticed several people from time to time walking up to turn four and kneeling to say a silent prayer. Even if there's not anything hanging from the wall or tied to a lamp pole, there are the skid marks that lead right up to the point of impact. One of the most major impacts in racing history.
