When I was a little red-haired girl I used to live in what was to become known as “The Zone”, a place never to hear the voice of Rod Serling, see the profile of Alfred Hitchcock, or feel the jet-stream of a passing super hero, but a blend of all of the above. In “The Zone” I sang with Alvin and the other Chipmunks, rode with the Lone Ranger on my trusty stick horse, and wore my mother’s voluminous half slip on my head, visualizing it as long golden tresses sure to capture the eye and heart of my prince. I was born in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains into the most wondrous, crazy family ever to bless a child. My family told me that my imagination could be my best friend. I’ve never had any reason to dispute that since it’s helped me to cope with life’s bumps and bruises. It’s even boosted my checking account a few times. I’ve had over four dozen short stories published in national magazines, as well as serial and holiday stories published in regional newspapers. I have a short story published in the anthology Shades of Tulsa and I’m a contributing author to Book Marketing A to Z. In 2004 I won first place for a short story submitted to the OWFI conference contest in the confession category. I won first place in the America Nostalgia Prose category at the OWFI conference in May, 2005 for a short story created from a chapter in Saturday Night Cocoa Fudge. I won prizes for poetry and a Sci-Fi book in OWFI writing contest in 2008. It is my pleasure to be a member of Tulsa Nightwriters and have the honor of being the editor of NightScripts, the organization’s newsletter. I’m also a member of Oklahoma Writers’ Federation, Inc. (OWFI).

SHADES OF TULSA was released December 2007!

Rich in culture and the arts, the city of Tulsa nurtures artists of all kinds—including writers. SHADES OF TULSA reflects a wealth of topics inspired by the city in short stories, memoirs, and a few poems.

The word shade has many meanings—shadows, ghosts, and nuance. These stories reflect the color, history, and mystery, real or possible, in this jewel of a city.

My contribution to this book is titled The Flying Saucer-a true story about a little girl in the south stealing her mamaw's wringer washing machine lid to use for a sled..until she got caught.

Saturday Night Cocoa Fudge to be released September 2008!

If there was background music for this non-fiction book it could have been sung by the 11-year-old girl they all called “Little Miss Dolly Parton” who lived a few short miles from me and sang on a local early morning television program. Her songs were my grandmother’s alarm clock to get my cousins up for school. I grew to truly dislike that little girl’s voice even though, or maybe because, Mamaw loved her so much. Then there was my beer drinking, neighbor-gossiping, superstition-spouting, old Southern folklore-believing, Bible-worshipping family. “There’s a man called the Wolfman who’s the seventh son of the seventh son and he can heal your daughter.” And he did. “Hurry, run and get the Bible. All I have to do is read a special passage and his bleeding will stop.” And it did. Saturday Night Cocoa Fudge recounts the folklore and beliefs that were relied upon to sustain life and limb of the families in the south. It’s a story about growing up, of not only a child of the 1950s, but that of the women of my family as they taught how to be the woman I was meant to be.imgimg

EXIT ONLY was officially released on March 21, 2005!

ISBN 1-4137-1280-0

It's 2024 and we have evolved into a nation our ancestors would have despised. We have succeeded in separating church from state and mind from heart. A new strain of AIDS has been discovered for which there is no hope for a cure. The entire world population becomes frantic and demands drastic steps be taken to eradicate the disease. The president of the United States instigates the spiral into madness when he hands downs a mandate that all those infected be removed from society and remain in exile until their death. A small group of people that calls itself PAC, or People Against Colonization, go underground to help the patients evade capture. In the end it's proven that there is a battle line. On one side are the US Government and the millions that want the mandate enforced. On the other side are PAC, its supporters, and the patients dying to be free. Neither side is giving in or giving up.

MIRACLES BEYOND MEDICINE is also available!

ISBN 1-4137-1280-0

Most people believe that medical personnel put religion aside when they don the mask of their profession. The truth is, that's when you need religion the most, when you're face to face with death. This book is about people in the medical field that have witnessed miracles first-hand, either in the hospital or in their own lives. These are stories about the bravery and faith of patients who were given a death sentence by doctors. These are the people that only God could save. We are now all believers. We've seen miracles beyond medicine.
