January 2008 - Friends Reunited

If you believe the 'Mint' adverts the world has to keep its self in a constant state of equilibrium. This week Bow Locks received the bad news that Channel 5 has postponed its plans to bring back The Big Breakfast. Basically Five wanted to do it but couldn't find a production company who were interested in the format. Even Ed Forsdick, ex executive producer of The Big Breakfast was on board.

We did, however receive some good news:

Denise Van Outen is to join Johnny Vaughan on his Capital FM breakfast show this month. She has reportedly been finalising her fee for the role which will see the Big Breakfast pair reunited.

A source told the Mail on Sunday: "Denise was having final-stage negotiations with bosses at Capital just before Christmas. "They hunted her down and Denise has negotiated a six-figure deal. Her pay packet won't be far off Johnny's, which will really rile him.

"The station has coughed up, though, because it is desperate to claw back listeners and is convinced Johnny and Denise will do that."

This is the original Big Breakfast fan site now celebrating 10 years online! This site is edited by 'smeg_head' one of the six official Big Breakfast 'superfans' as featured on the final show March 29th 2002.

December 2007 - The Facebook Breakfast.

Type 'The Big Breakfast' into Facebook's search facility. Go on. Then click on Groups. Amazing isn't it. 42 Groups all showing their love of The Big Breakfast. 37 of which are demanding to 'Bring it Back'. That's a lot of groups, and a lot of people.

Facebook Groups like this have been successful, if teh Media is to be believed these groups are single handedly responsible for the return of Cadbury's Wispa and the dropping of 'Is' from the Facebook status bar.

Well now this is the big one, can a Facebook group be used to get a TV show back on air? People this is the start of Bow Locks' Project 2008. For a TV show to be so fondly remembered almost 6 years after being axed is a big thing. The public genuinely love the show. We need to build on this. Firstly the groups should consolidate, merge from 37 into one glorious whole. (snigger)

I'd suggest this group be THE group, it's nowt to do with Bow Locks but it has got 1,800 members and counting. Go on, join it, spread the word and let's get Britian waking up to The Big Breakfast one again!

Big Breakfast 2.0

In a Bow Locks editorial on the day of the final Big Breakfast I said it was probably only a matter of time before the show, in some format, returned. I did however say it would need a good five years before realistically someone would consider dusting off the format. Well, if only I could predict the lottery numbers to the same effect because, here we are, five years on and there are rumblings that The Big Breakfast is coming back. In a post on the Bow Locks forum regular contributor 'former planet24' has hinted that Five are looking to revamp their morning schedule;

"Channel Five are planning a complete revamp of its entire network. They feel that they need to overhaul their programming and approach. Part of this revamp is too include a complete change in its morning schedule. Enter The Big Breakfast.
Now, Ed Forsdick, my former boss, who is now in charge of the remains of the Planet24 company has already been approached about the idea and has given his go-ahead, although I understand they are still haggling over the rights.
Basically Channel 5 are gonna bring this show back, expect an official announcement late this year, early next."
From small acorns...

It's one of the most important 2 hours of television of the 1990s. People forget to what extent The Big Breakfast revolutionised TV - especially live TV. Many also forget the sheer amount of big names that got their first experience of presenting on the show over the 10 years.

Well now, courtesy of 'michaelsouthwest' and You Tube, you can now see the legendary first ever Big Breakfast starring, of course, Chris & Gaby. Making this video even more interesting is that it's a library copy of the show - not an off air taping. This means we can hear the crew rehearsing and chatting in the background of the ad breaks. A fantastic treat for Big Breakfast fans.
