The Ruy Lopez

This is the Spanish Opening, invented by the Spaniard Ruy Lopez in the 15th century. The fact of bringing the bishop all the way to the square b5 is simply to put long term pressure on the black's center. For over the years, many master have been able to master this opening, but the best player ever to dominate this complex strategy was Capablanca. This Cuban genius was born in Havana, Cuba November 19, 1888. He learned the moves watching his father when he was five. While he was a mature player, he was called "The Chess Machine", because he did not commit blunders very often.
