My grandaughter,
Hanna's First Day
of Preschool
This is a letter from my daughter telling me about the first day
my granddaughter started to Preschool. It seems kids these days start to school at such an early age. My older kids were 6 years old when they started to school. I remember when my daughter, mother of this grandchild, started to kindergarten when she was  almost 5 and that was too soon for me.
Now for my granddaughter......
She will learn to count

Hanna started preschool Sept 5-2000. She did really good, didn't cry. We had gone the week before to the open house and met her teachers and saw her classroom.  We stayed about an hour.  Her teacher gave her a big piece of construction paper that had "My Family" across the top that she was to work on and bring back.  She colored on it with markers and we put pictures of us & the pets on it.  She was so proud of it and so excited to take it to her teacher.  She carried it in and gave it right to her.  I told her I was leaving and would be back soon.  She got a little bit of a panicked look on her face and started to protest, but then I saw the teacher start to put her picture up on the wall in her classroom, so I told Hanna why doesn't she help her teacher.  She went over to help and I waved bye and walked out.  I heard her say "where's Mama?"  I waited outside the door and listened, but I didn't hear her cry or anything.  She was playing and having a great time when we came back to pick her up. Joe came too. The teacher said she played with the other kids and was the class explorer.  She checked out everything in the classroom, I guess. She has two teachers and about 12 kids in her class.  She will go on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to noon. She went back on Thursday too and didn't cry or anything when I left. The teacher had brought out a big doll house and asked Hanna if she wanted to play with it, and Hanna walked right over to it and started to play.  When I came to pick her up she saw me and said "bye Mama."  She wanted me to leave her there to play some more.  I took her to McDonalds for a happy meal after school.  She looked so grown up sitting across from me eating her french fries.  She went with me to get a haircut after McDonalds.  I'm glad she likes school.
