This is the old Cherokee
Nation Courthouse building as it stands today in Tahlequah,
Oklahoma. This is the front which faces West. It is bordered
on the West side by main street which is called Muskogee ave,
North side by Delaware which is a one way street, East
side is Water street and South street is Keetowah. It was first built
in the 1870 as the Cherokee Capitol of Indian Territory. The
earlier building was built of logs.
This is the South and East
(back) of the Cherokee Nation Court house. This is
the site of the meeting place of the Cherokee government when
they first arrived in Indian Territory in 1839.
This is me sitting inside the
Gazebo located on the front lawn of the Cherokee Nation
Courthouse square. Note to the left of me and behind
in the distance, the old Cherokee Nation Supreme Court
building can be seen. I have included a picture of it
below.
