TROOP HISTORY.....
Boy Scout Troop 1889 began in November 1994. The number "1889" was chosen because April 22, 1889 was the date of the Oklahoma land run & on that date Guthrie, Oklahoma arose from the soil of the Oklahoma Territory. Guthrie celebrates that date each year with an 89er Celebration. It seemed to be a fitting number for a new Scout Troop. The boys who are members of Troop 1889 are often asked when traveling about the number, & their community pride comes out when they tell other scouts what their number stands for. Troop 1889 started meetings in Jan. 1995 with 9 adults & 22 boys. (5 experienced boys & 17 Webelos just crossing over from Cub Scouts). Six years later, Troop 1889 is continued the scouting spirit with weekly meetings, weekend camping trips, & other troop activities. Troop 1889 was last chartered in 2003. TROOP 1889 closed in March 2003.
