He yawned, "No."
I exclaimed, "It snowed last night!! That's the first time this year."
"That's good," Zac said. He sounded like he was falling asleep.
"But I didn't think it would snow this year," I explained, not caring if he was awake or not. "But, it did! It snowed!" I waited for him to say something and then I hung up when I heard him snoring. I ran into my room and grabbed my journal. I sat down at my kitchen table and wrote:
Hey, journal! Guess what..It snowed!!! I'm sooooo happy! I've been waiting to see snow since November, and it finally came! Zac could care less. I guess it's different for him. He's seen it ever year, I haven't! I've hardly seen any. Well, I want to go outside now, so I'll write more to you later! Love Ya! Bye!"
I closed the mini notebook then walked to the hall closet and took out my winter coat. I put it on. I'd been waiting to wear it about 3 months! Finally, I had my chance! I walked outside onto the porch again and looked around. Cold wind rushed at me, but I didn't notice.
I ran into the little wooded area by my house and just ran around for a while. I felt like a young child on Christmas morning! I was thrilled to finally see some snow!!!
I made my way to the little tree house that me, Zac, and my nephew built in the summer. It looked beautiful with the snow over covering it! I smiled and climbed up.
As I climbed up using the ice-covered steps, I slipped and fell onto the snow. I tried to get up, but I couldn't, the pain in my leg hurt too much! I cried.
Suddenly, a young man, about my age, ran to me. He sat down by me. He was quite good looking, and if I wasn't dating Zac, I probably would have kissed him, but I didn't. "Do you need help?" the man asked. He had a strong British Accent--I loved it!
"Yeah..I fell...my leg hurts. I can't move."
The man shook his head, "I'll help you."
"What's your name?" I asked, over taken by his niceness and charm.
He hesitated, "January." I didn't really believe him. The way he had to think about it made me think that he was lying, but still, he could help me, so I didn't say anything.
"I'm Steph," I told him. He smiled.
"I'm going to pick you up," he explained. "Do you live far from here?"
"No," I replied. "Just a bit off to theright," I pointed in the direction of my house. The man, "January," slid his arms beneath me. I couldn't feel his touch, but I could feel myself rising and moving.
He brought me back to my house and set me down on my bed. "You'll be okay," he told me. "God won't let you die." I looked at him, a little puzzled.
"What's your REAL name?" I askedw ith a slight giggle.
He looked at me and smiled sweetly. "I'm your January Friend," was all he said...then, he vanished.
It took me a minute to get over my January friend, then I called Zac and told him I needed help.
I never told anyone about that day--never told anyone about my January Friend. I never really found out what my January Friend really was, but I always thought of him as an angel...And smoetimes, in January, I can still see my January friend in the woods, smiling and watching over my house.
