~*Characters*~

~Elena Gilbert

Elena Gilbert is pretty, popular, every guy's dream and the girl who every girl wants to be. She has long pale blonde hair and eyes as blue as lapis lazuli. She's Homecoming Queen and Robert E. Lee's princess. She's conceited, goal-orientated, bold and selfish (does anyone else smell an Aries influence?). What she wants, she gets, and she knows it... until a certain dark stranger enters her life and her life and views of herself are challenged and she begins her journey to maturity.

~Stefan Salvatore

Stefan Salvatore is a stranger from a foreign land with a secret. He's a new student Robert E. Lee, having just moved from Italy, and he is instantly an object of desire among the women for his dark good looks and his aura of mystery and intrigue. He's of average height, wavy black hair and piercing green eyes. He's a vampire over five centuries old, having been changed by a former girlfriend who is supposedly dead. He lives in misery and guilt over her loss as he tries to defy his nature. He has a strict moral code about honor and killing. He's self-pitying, compassionate, sensitive and guilt-stricken (do any of my astrology-crazed viewers see him as a Cancer or Pisces?).

~Damon Salvatore

Damon Salvatore is Stefan's older brother. He's a stronger vampire than Stefan, and glorifies his nature. He's a fierce killer and he preys on innocent young girls (::cough:: womanizer ::cough::). He has liquidy straight black hair and black eyes. He and his brother have some extreme differences and hate each other. He's dark, brooding, wild, arrogant and dangerous. (I see Scorpio, anyone else have a call?) He's a character I both loved and loved to loathe. I was attracted by his manner but repulsed by his arrogance.

::: On a brighter and odder note, I have more than warmed up to Damon. Anyone who I role play with on AOL, knows that Diana Meade and Damon Salvatore have been married since March. LOL just goes to show, strange things DO happen:::

~Meredith Sulez

Meredith Sulez is Elena's closest friend. She's tall with dark hair, dark eyes and olive skin. She's witty, intelligent, elegant, quiet, practical, and trustworthy. She thinks before acting, and is quite the observer. She watches others and employs her deductive reasoning. She listens well to others, but rarely tells anyone about the family secrets in her past. She is one of the only people in the group not to hold some awe or fear of Damon. In the series, Meredith is a Gemini which I really can't see due to her quiet manner. I see Meredith as more of a Scorpio or Capricorn, anyone else have an opinion?

~Bonnie McCullough

Bonnie is Elena's other best friend. She's petite with warm brown eyes, curly red hair and delicate features. She's perky, bold, boy-crazy, overly honest to almost a blunt point and very loyal to Elena (Since I have astrology opinions on the rest of the characters, I'm going to say I see Bonnie as an Aries or Gemini). She is psychic due to her Druid heritage.

~Caroline Forbes

Caroline is Elena's arch-rival and former friend. During the summer before their senior year, Caroline developed quite a resentment for Elena and come school year she withdrew herself from Elena's clique. She spends her time trying to steal Elena's position as Queen. She's tall and slender with a model-like figure with auburn hair and cat-green eyes. She falls for Stefan with the rest of Robert E. Lee's female population and succeeds in taking him to the Homecoming Dance. Her grudge against Elena grows as Elena "steals" Stefan away. Caroline is showed as competitive, arrogant, vindictive, vain and resentful. She can be seen as either a Leo or an Aries.

~Matt Honeycutt

Matt is Elena's ex-boyfriend who remains in her life as a loyal friend. He's your All-American boy-next-door: a handsome blonde, blue-eyed high school quarter-back with a charm "nice guy" appeal. He becomes friends with Stefan and remains that way even after Stefan gets together with the girl he still loves.

~Katherine Von Schwartzchild

Katherine is the supposedly dead girlfriend of both Stefan and Damon's past. She is blonde and blue-eyed and looks startlingly similar to Elena. She is the cause of the brother's first fight. She was the one who made them into vampires because she was in love with them both, but didn't want to choose. She's emotional, childlike and innocent. I'd say she was a Pisces, but does anyone have any better guesses?

~*Book Summaries*~

***IMPORTANT these contain major spoilers so if you haven't read thse you may not want to read these.***

The Awakening

The Awakening is the first book in the series. It starts off with the first day of Elena's senior year. She wakes up with an omnious feeling and is reluctant to go to school. She is greeted at school by her usual crowd and Bonnie shows her her new found talent of palm reading. Bonnie sees a dark stranger who was once tall entering Elena's life. As if on cue Stefan Salvatore drives up and capturing the hearts of the girls instantly. Elena is determined to have him but he ignores her. She plots to get him but come Homecoming she finds him as the date of her rival Caroline Forbes. Elena gets angry and runs off with Tyler Smallwood, a crude football player who takes her to the graveyard and attempts to assault her. Then out of the blue, she is saved by Stefan Salvatore himself. He takes her back to his room at the boarding house and after a little arguing on Elena's part. The start kissing and get together. Stefan takes her back home and they find that Vicki Bennett has been attacked. Stefan gets all quiet and leaves. As the book progresses Stefan and Elena's relationship runs hot and cold due to Stefan's secrecy. Also Damon (who's Stefan's brother) tries to seduce Elena on two occasions. Everything comes to a climax at the Haunted House on Halloween when Mr. Tanner is murdered and Stefan is blamed. Stefan escapes the mob with the help of Matt Honeycutt. Elena goes to the boarding house and finds Stefan feeding on a bird (if you've read the descriptions above or the stories, you know he's a vampire). She freaks out and falls off the roof. Stefan jumps off himself, catches her and saves her from death. They go inside and he tells her all about his past concerning the girl who he loved and changed him into a vampire and his rivalry with his brother. He feels that he commited both the attack on Vicki and Tanner's murder although he has no recollection of it. Elena then reveals that she suspects Damon is in town and that he committed the crimes. When Stefan is doubtful of this theory, she goes on to tell him about the times Damon tried to seduce her. Although Stefan believes Damon was in town he tells Elena he's still a danger to her. Elena wants them to be close and exchange blood which causes Stefan to flip out. After a small demonstration of violence, Elena kisses him and Stefan gives into her and they exchange blood. Later, after Stefan drops Elena off at home, he goes to find and confront his brother, they have an argument over Elena and Damon attacks Stefan and feeds off of him. After the attack Stefan attemots to walk away but after a while he passes out. The next day, the word around is that Stefan is missing and Elena gets angry and rushes off to find Damon. And that's the end of Awakening.
