The Scene

It was basically a normal day in a normal town in  the Midwest.  South Central Missouri is many things but exciting is not generally one, slow moving farm life at its most common!   On this day, it was different.  The assistant to the property management office had been told to go by and check on a resident/renter.  Its an old man, odd sort........known to act bizarrely and very much a senior citizen who had reported a problem with his house then wasn't reachable.   It was about time for rent anyhow so the plan was to run by, see what the problem was, what help was needed and collect the rent..........all in a day.........a normal day............when she entered the home she detected no sign of life, the horror surged through her..........she ran from the house in tears, physically ill and called her friend in rescue, our foster mom for guidance.  She encouraged her to go back in and make sure everyone was dead and see if the human was also dead.......she called law enforcement  who had the knowledge that they tried to arrest the old man on a warrant and he fled the area and they had no interest in the scene.......she returned on her own and as she entered, one tiny head popped up and a slight cry was heard.

One live puppy, her heart said grab it and run...........but this cant be all of them.........she walked thru the house, confirming the cop info with the vacant drawers and absence of all personal effects.  As she entered the back yard, she found the charred and burnt remains of what was other victims .........but victim of what?  What horrors had these dogs seen?  One neighbor suggested the animals had been poisoned but really had nothing to go on, they said they saw him out there burning dogs but they all feared this man and took the Ozark way out, chose to mind their own business.

The still nursing though starved mother already bloating in the doorway had sustained some blunt force type wounds and was long gone, her puppies left with no food.....all but one died.  The rescue angel that walked into this horrific sight, the ONLY one who didnt just mind her own business has chosen to further her selflessness by assuring this baby a home forever.  Once you nurse a baby back from the brink of death, the bond is hard to break and we are thrilled.  However, the other two survivors are still very much in need.

We could spend so much time, as we have.........why?  how could anyone...?? what sorta s.o.b. must he be??  YES, that is all true and further truth is that law enforcement has no interest and views this as the landlord's mess and problem........so, with the same devotion and decency she has shown through this episode, she returned with a shovel and gave each and every one of these loving hearts, these victims of violence, starvation....... abandonment and who knows all what.....a proper burial with dignity and tears of love and regret shed for each and every one as they were committed back to Mother Earth in hopes that peace and warmth can be found for their tiny lost souls.
